The ASAP Diet

patro

New member
Anyone ever heard of the ASAP diet? I'm starting it and it's damn hard on 1,300 calories per day.

But I trust the author of the book based on his credentials and the testimonials.

Anyone ever heard of it or tried it?

Please, someone who is more knowledgeable and eloquent than me blast this 1300 calorie diet.

Please do some searches on this site for info on what will happen to your body if you starve it (and that is what you are doing on 1300 cal/day)

It doesn't have to be that hard, patro!! Starving your body is not the answer.

VDL

p.s. I came off a little harsh here, I think, but honestly you need to do a little research on eating properly and educate yourself :)

Bump for voodoo lady. I can't give you straight physiology here, but I can tell you this. With that amount of calories, your body will go into starvation mode and do everything it can to store fat. It will fight you all the way. You'll have no energy. It will affect your mood, and not in a good way.

You have to keep your metabolism running to lose weight. Yes, technically if you follow this diet, you will lose weight. But it will take longer and it is very unhealthy for you.

I agree that a more moderate caloric restriction is probably the best way to go. But just to play devil's advocate, look at the people on Survivor--their bodies surely were in "starvation mode," but they still lost fat and got ripped. And I heard that Sylvester Stallone used to only eat 12 egg whites and some toast all day in order to cut up for Rocky III.

True, but what did all those Survivor folks do as soon as they got home? They hit McDonalds, with a vengance. Yes, a starvation type diet will cut you up, no doubt about it. But it will not last. It's no way to live,IMO.

If they didn't pig out, but slowly went back to a more healthy intake, would they get fat? In other words, does a short-term low-cal diet screw your metabolism for life, or will it normalize again?

skinnyfat,

yes you can do that. It is posible to "temporarily" starve yourself and then ease into a good diet. Its just not agood way to do things. Ive been known to do it from time to time. ANother thing, people on this board look at kcals and say "you are in starvation mode". that isnt something you can determine that easily. TO bulk I eat 2500 calories and I grow. I wat 1500 calories a day in general. My only problem is learning to balance my diet properly.

The point is, why starve yourself at all? If your sole purpose is to lose weight, nothing else, just lose weight, you will likely not succeed in the long run.

People who succeed in losing weight and KEEPING IT OFF are the ones who make not just changes in their diets, but changes in their entire lives. The weight loss becomes a "side effect" of that.

As hard as going on a diet sounds, it's relatively easy in comparison to changing your life in order to be healthy. VERY few people, especially in overstuffed America, are able to do that.

I completely agree with you gymtime.

The only reason that I starved myself is because Im inpatient and wanted quick results. Seeing myself looking better gave me the drive to change everything else in my life to get healthier.

Then I discovered Gear.

Seeing yourself look better is a great motivator, probably the great motivator. But even so, it's not enough to keep most people in the gym and out of McDonalds. But for a precious few, it's enough to change their lives.

And I'm with you SoCo. Gonna do my first cycle early next year. Been dieting and lifting long enough, bring on the gear!!! (no rhyme intended there :p )

Here's the problem:

SO many people that claim they know everything say one thing and just as many 'experts' say the opposite. Damn, I'm in the gym all the time, running, lifting, exercising.

If this dude with the Ph.D in exercise science who has written 44 books and shows countless before and after photos of people on his diet (ASAP) is right, why shouldn't I follow it?

Shit, I've changed my entire lifestyle! I never eat crap. I never eat fast food, and for the past 3 1/2 weeks I haven't had a sip of alcohol! I hit the gym very regularly with discipline.

I only work from 7:30pm to 9pm 5 days a week so I have the whole day free! I have a gym in my condo downstairs so it's so easy for me!

My motivation is seeing myself fit, and all the resources and means are in front of me.

Yet still, whenever I think I have everything figured out, it seems that half the world agrees with me and the other half says it's BS.

The last 7 months, when I started reading about fitness, I didn't know anything. I've been reading and taking in as much information as possible since then. I'm not an expert, but I'm studying hours a day. What more can I do??

Thanks,

PATRO
