I'm not easily offended. I just thought it was an idiotic response.
I don't know if any states list 14 as the legal age of consent, but for everywhere I know of, this is statutory rape.
This is not a reason to call it rape.
If you are going to claim that the law is right simply because it's the law it will lead you into a shitload of moral dilemmas.
We often must follow the law because it’s not exactly practical to rebel against the government every time it does a stupid thing but if you are going to condemn this teacher on a moral level you must come up with something more fundamental then just the fact that the law defines this as “statutory rape.”

I love how often people comment about the death penalty for evil, hideous rapists, yet when a woman does it, everyone's drooling at the mouth like an idiot.
C’mon man, it’s not hard to come up with fundamental differences between what this teacher did and a VIOLENT rape.
There is a whole world separating using force or blackmail, drugs or the threat of force to get into someone’s pants then just taking advantage of the fact that the 14 year old was horny.

No double standards. Rape is rape, and jailbait is jailbait.
You are right that this is a double standard but it’s not just a cultural one, there is also a natural one. The fact is that it is NOT the same thing both ways. The more obvious mechanical differences are backed up by mental differences. Most women know that they would not appreciate being in the opposite situation but that sure as hell is not a reason to say that it’s the same both ways. The reason why men are less sympathetic to these boys then women would be the other way around is actually evidence of what I’ve been saying that men and women are different and this is not the same crime.

I'm sure all the guys here would feel the same way if it was
thier child, right? Give 'em a high-five and say, "Way to go, son!"
Make no mistake, I don’t think what the teacher did is ok. There should be professional ramifications because this is such a horrid distraction from her real job but I think you and others have a lot to prove before you can really call this the same thing as a rape.
If this was my kid I’d want him out of that “relationship” but I would not be near as horrified as if it was a girl in the opposite situation because there is a difference and it’s really saying something when we probably have to explain to these kids how they where harmed. I believe the media circus is more damaging to them then what she did.
If anyone can come up with proof of how these kids are damaged beyond very embarrassed by the media circus and maybe the stigma of a first break up though the natural confusion that all young people must come across and grow out of I will be very impressed.
