sust site injection

Ok, I shot 5cc of sust in both tri's, which i have done many times before. Most times a little swelling soreness, nothing major. This time my left tricep has swelled up major for about 4 days now. I don't think I have an absces(forgive the spelling) because there is no lumps. Is it possible to tear a vein or something else ? I am on anti-biotics for the flu now so, I figure if it is infected, I should be ok. i am VERY cautious when injecting. i don't even use the same pin when going from one site to another.

wow....

Anayways I ahve has injection sites swell up with some redness on SUST before. In my past experience, the swelling/redness goes away in about a week.

5cc is quite a bit of juice for your tri's!

Also, just because you are on antibiotics doesn't mean that the antibiotic you are on is designed for abscesses. Not all antibiotics are used for the same underlying problem. Antibiotics come in different kinds, for example some strains of bacteria are resistant to certain kinds of antibiotics.

Because not all antibiotics are the same, taking antibiotics (say for the flu) could actually make an abscess worse.

For example, if a doc gives you antibiotics for 10 days for the flu and you develop an abscess on day 5, that means your abscess is only getting treated with antibiotics for 5 days (with an antibiotic that may not be strong enough to kill all of the bacteria from the abscess). If you have an abscess, and the antibiotics do not kill all of the bacteria, it could become resistant to that antibiotic. Consequently, you'll need a larger dose/different kind of antibiotic (usually for a longer period) to heal the abscess.

Docs always harp on taking antibiotics for the full period of the prescription because it takes time to kill all of the bacteria. The reason why there are tons of antibiotic-resistant bacteria out there is because people do not take their medicine for the recommended time period, or they slack off of the dosage etc. The bottom line is what doesn't kill the bacteria makes it stronger.

Right now I wouldn't worry about an abscess but keep an eye on it. If it does get nasty make sure you tell the doc specifically what antibiotic you were on so the right treatment can be prescribed.

infection = redness, and soreness. usually really fucking painful, more each day if it's infected.

If the site is getting worse, i.e. bigger and more swollen. I suggest you seek medical help.

In the future, don't hit your TRIs with 5cc, that's too much.
