Find a woman who has a really good looking bottle tan and ask her what she uses. Seriously though, a lot of us don't tan at all and IMO this is a good option.
From experience don't use the discount versions and find a forum online where the women discuss how to slap the stuff on correctly.
I have tried the Neutrogena (clear liquid spray is better than cream) - very good product. Consider wearing surgical gloves or using saran wrap on your hand, as washing hands does not always get it out of your callouses.
Needless to say, unless you want to look like a fool, apply evenly and carefully for a natural look. Also air conditioning helps as you will work yourself into a lather trying to put this on in the summer.
Hope this short novel on the ins and outs of fake tans has helped you.
