Stress/anxiety reduction meds

What are some good meds for stress? I have a serious problem w/ anxiety in school, and well, everything. I get worried about virtually everything, its ridiculous.
I have talked to a shrink here at school, and he's not much help.

What are some meds?
And, anyone have any experience with them?
thanks

Benzodiazepines are some of the best anti-anxiety medications. However, many shrinks, and doctors in general, are reluctant to prescribe them. The only negative thing about the that comes to my mind about them is horrible withdrawal symptoms.

If you go to a shrink requesting an anti-anxiety medication, you will probably get an SSRI(paxil, prozac, etc.), or another uncontrolled substance. These med's may work, but people often complain about the side effects associated with these med's. Another medication a doctor may bring up, especially if you use the word anxiety, is buspar. Many people find it to be a great placebo. If you do get it, after you find out that it doesn't work, try feeding the rest of the bottle to your pet dog or something and see if it even changes it's behavior. Some people claims it does work, but I haven't seen many of those people. If you respond to an SSRI then maybe that may have some effect. One downside is that it has D2 antagonist effects. I view it as a downside.

Kava Kava and 5-htp are effective for some people. Good luck.

Do a search here and on the internet for INOSITOL. It works wonders - honestly. It is a thousand times better than kava kava, valerian etc. But you must take gram amounts.

Anyone who suggests over the counter stuff has probably never tried Heroin or other Opium derivatives. Maximum relaxation. Nothing better unless you get caught and end up in the slammer.

A doctor prescribed me Lorezapam several years ago, it is the generic form of Ativan....that stuff calmed me down very quickly. My stress levels were very low while on it, I had no side effects from it other than it made me lethargic and that led to me gaining weight. Now I just use my time in the gym to get all my stress out......works for me.

Neurontin (gabapentin) may help.

Try 6 g/day of taurine , 3 g / day l-glycine and between 6- 12 g /day of inositol , taken together in seperate doses , may be even throw in some 5-htp.

You forgot to mention weed, which is not an opiate but is relaxing and has less jail time associated with it. ;)

hey

kava is great, theanine is the shit!
quick note on person mentioning heroin on a bb board, your a fuckin idiot.go shoot up/snort that crap somewhere else.
as far as script meds...like the above said...benzos like valium are wonderful...but not somehting you wanna take all the time,,,can b very addictive....peace

Inositol and Hawthorne are excellent natural supps. Atavin will do the trick but it's pretty wicked. (narcotic) If you take it in the daytime expect to be worthless for the remainder of the day. If your problem isn't depression your options are limited. Anxiety isn't understood very well, despite what the medical/psychiatric profession claim.

Slight correction...

to Mr. Montana's post. Ativan (lorazepam) is actually a benzodiazepine. A quite powerful one at that which like Mr. Montana stated is very effective at chilling a stressed amigo out.:fro:

You're right bdog. I was aware that Atavin is a benzo but I was going with the assumption that my doc knew what she was talking about when she said it was a narc. (Maybe she thought so because it's an addictive, controlled substance.) BTW, if you take Atavin for more than a few days in a row and then stop, you'll be one grumpy motherfucker. At least that's been my experience.

Balance 3, its alocal product put out by Dr. Charles Murray, it costs aout $60 per bottle but its like a miracle pill for people with high blood pressure/stress/anxiety and insomnia... check it out, maybe you can find some on the internet if its not offered at a local store... i know we sell a shitload... we can ship some to you as well, PM me

Go to the gym and curse at the weights. Tell them they are not lisenting and you are going to Fxxxing kill them. Works for me.

My doc put me on lexapro, its an SSRI that is supposed to have less side effects. Anyone ever hear of this shit?? I feel like a guinnea pig for the FDA's new invfentions

i'm on a low dose of effexor and i have a script for ativan when i need it... but that's a really low dose too, like 0.5mg... it works though.

Ive basically tried most of them, Started with Ritalin (no clue why the doc prescribed that one) Then got switched to Celexa, then to Paxil, then added Buspar. Side Effects at that point were worse than the anxiety so the Doc switched me back to Celexa but added Xanax. The doc then took me off Celexa because it wasnt doing anything for my anxiety, he put me on Effexor XR. At that point i was fed up with these combos so i started on Inositol (as recommended by the peeps on Elite) and ive found that its good stuff. Has greatly reduced my anxiety and i feel back to normal. Only problem is that now im dependant on Xanax. So basically I would say to use the drugs last if possible and do as much research on it as you can. Ive come to the conclusion that the Doc's dont really know much about anxiety themselves so its kinda up to you.. Good Luck!

yeha i notice 50 mg 5-htp and 100 theanine and i am stressless hehe.....but 50 and 300 will knock me the hell out haha when i am ready to kill someone...i take it sometimes when i just need to pass out and relax

i was prescribed wellbutrin for my anxiety/attention problems and it works pretty well. i definitely wouldnt go on xanax or valium. works for some but alot just get hooked on em and eat more than they're suppose to anyways.

Klonopin (clonazepam) .5 mgs works for me pretty well...
just about anything in the benzodiazapine family works well
on anxiety.... Buspar sucks- it is Not a benzo....
Also- valerian root capsules- 2 standardized -
can calm anxiety as well... Good Luck!

ummmmmm, no :o
if you're anxiety prone I highly doubt chocamine will alleviate the onset, if not aggravate the symptoms. I do agree on phenibut and rho :martini:
