straight arm pull overs expand the ribcage is a myth, correct?

I always thought if you did them while you were a teenager (in other words before you are fully developed) that it was a truth.

a.k.a. breathing pullovers
 
It can stretch the cartilage between the ribs and breast plate; probably over rated though.
 
I know this post is five years late but.
If bones can`t be shaped, then how come Women in Chiang Mai or to Mae Hong Som, can have really long necks by applying lock rings on them?
that would prove that a bone structure can be changed atleast in length by constantly applying pressure.
If this is true then doing pullovers to expand your ribcage over the course of time also work by constantly applying more weight. Because i don`t think so many wimen in these cultures are born with those long necks, then they wouldn`t have to use lock rings.

You know if they take those rings off there necks will collapse because there vertebra are so separated.....

thats different that is constant 24/7 365 days a year pressure compared to 10 min workout. but i see your point

You are correct sir. As you mentioned, however, it is the breathing that causes the physiological change. You can't just do pullovers. The pullovers must be used in connection with the proper breathing technique, and they usually only work during the teenage years.

See 20 rep squat programs.

E.g., 20 rep breathing squats (using 10 rep max), followed by pullovers immediately as a superset.

This is true and they all start at a tender age.

Breathing pullover itself can be more effective at a tender age because the cartilago holding the ribs to the sternum hasn't lost it's pliability which past the mid 20s makes it very hard to the pullover prove it's value, there's no cientific data that proves or denies the abilty to expand rib cage through this exercise nonetheless old school bodybuilders like Dave Draper, Steve Reeves claimed the effectiveness. I have done them and like it alot.
 
Where did i say there necks were longer???

well since you did say vertebra i would assume you were talking about there necks.i was just saying the neck and back stay the same but it pushes the shoulders and rib cage down.
 
I see what your saying but that is what happens, whether its the neck being pushed up or the shoulders being pushed down you still separate the vertebrae so much when you remove them your neck just goes FLOP. lol
