Elite Strongman

Well, I finished 1st in the 300lb weight class. I don't have all the times but I do have some good information about what all I did.

Super Yoke Walk
700lbs, 80 ft, 17 seconds

Farmers Walk
250 each, 22 seconds (best overall time of the day)

Log Press
240lbs, 10 reps

Tire Flip
600lb tire, 80 ft

Keg Load
5, 250lb kegs (sand/water) carry each 25ft and load into a truck bed

I finished 1st in the 300lb weight class. I was the youngest and lightest in my class also. I won all 5 events in my class and missed the overall heavyweight championship by 2 points. Those super heavies (300 and up) are sometimes hard to beat. All in all, I was glad that if I had to win the overall...I lost to who I did. Doesn't get any better than this guy...even at 340lb plus...haha.

Flipping the tire...although it was very light...I still need to work on my technique when I do it. I was waiting for it to "settle" before I flipped it again... Had I not done that...I would have done well enough in this event to have won the entire contest...

Found something to hold onto as soon as I finished though. It was either Night Fly or Milo...I chose Night Fly....haha

After loading the last one...I explained to the guy that I was about to go get something very big to eat...and a dark beer. I think I even mentioned Hooters at one point...he thought that it was the funniest thing he had ever heard..haha...

2 am...long day of competing...and they were all very drunk. Cheese talks the women into picking him up and carrying him..lol.

Melissa Ortega on the left, pro strongwoman and sweetie....and Amy Weisberger on the right, pro strongwoman and world record holder in the men's and women's class for the bench press (319).

We had a blast...and I am probably off to bed...lol

Yeah thats what I thought, it definately looks like Jill Mills who won the Worlds Strongest Woman event in South Africa

Yeah...that is Jill Mills...and Amy from Westside. She is a sweetheart too...especially after several shots and beers...haha. I have some GOOD pics of her...hahahahaha

I do need a few sponsors as all 4 of the pros there that day told me that I did not need to be competing in the amats anymore...I needed to be a pro. I can't be a pro without sponsors though...

I said it once, in one of my previous post ,and I am gonna say it again; in spite of your rustic and home made equipment you manage to squeze in , all kind of exercises in order to prepare for your main goal-Strongest Man Contest-, whereas guys who might have access to fancier and snazzier equipment , do not get the same results as they do not put the same intensity, the same war-face( or should I say gym-face) as you do in your workouts.
You manage to improvise and home-made in a fairly small place, an interesting array-of gym equipment. One more proof the human ingeniosity has no boundaries .


Moral: With discipline,motivation,perseverence and fierce determination you can achieve your goal , notwithstanding the lack of fancier equipment.

I am a big fan of "the world storgest man" on ESPN.
So far vikings are kicking ass..Who won last year? Is Yoko Ahola( dont know the real spelling) still competing?

Most small contests can be done for $250 or less. It usually costs $50 registration, $50 gas, $150 for 2 nights motel. Looks like I will start working on my portfolio and maybe a web site to advertise myself a bit better...

You are right...when we get to a contest we can't wait to play with the good equipment. The equipment we get to use at a contest is so much better than what we use at home. It is a real treat.

Svend Karlsen won last year, Joko retired a couple of years ago.

Yep...Night Fly has an amazing smile...I agree.

I am only an amateur at the moment. I hope to earn my Pro card by winning the North America's Strongest Man contest this October. Who knows though...everything has to happen perfectly.

Once you are pro, you have to place top 5 at a contest similar to "Regionals". That contest will let you compete in Nationals. The top 5 at Nationals goes to the World's Strongest Man contest. It is a dream for me to be there in 5 years.

bfold, i'm not fantastic at web design yet, but as a designer and at the very least an artist who can do touch-ups on photos w/photoshop, i'd be willing to help you out any way i can.

you'll make it to your goal.. that i'm sure of.

Naw, but with a little touch abs, im sure he could probably graft a calvin klein model's six pack onto yours, trim down your waist line, and give you a nice defined six pack.

do have Microsoft Office? If you do you can very easily devolpe a decent site using Front Page. I'm a Marketing Communications major and have used for a couple of smaller companies and it worked quite well.

Just tryin to help incase you are looking for some.

I know very little about computer and site development. Very very little.

If it doesn't deal with pics or music...I know next to nothing. Any advice is appreciated. I am actually talking with an advertising agency/agent at the moment...

Good idea with the ad agency, but check a couple out so you don't get overcharged. I am starting my internship next week at DKY Inc. It is a small agency in Minneapolis MN that does alot of web work. If you have any questions I would love to help you out.

Dude that is so awesome! You did very well yet you also learned something (thie thing about the tire flip). It's also cool that you are patient. Night Fly is representing also.

As much as I hate grandstanding and egos, the best way to market yourself is to have a "persona." Wear something outrageous to your next contest like red spiked hair and ripped up biker leather. People also like controversy.

Look at Deon, look at wrestling. I don't like it, but if it's a choice between hanging up your atlas stones or making a living at this, you might have to be a little outrageous. You don't have to be something you're not, but pick a look that you used to like in high school, or a band you like that has a look (like KISS or Korn for example) and dress up like someone that would be in that band or something. That's what gets you noticed.

If you don't want to actually compete in a weird 'do, at least fuck around with some publicity shots for your website. I mean go to the Salvation Army with Night Fly one day and buy $10 worth of outrageous clothes and put them on and snap some pics. It's worth a try.

Just my 2 cents. I wish I lived near you, I could be your agent!

i think you should wear zebra pants (i got the idea from some guy in the "how much pain can you take" thready) and dye your hair into the american flag again like you had when you were younger in one of those pics you posted. Also, draw a giant yellow smiley face on your stomach(you can make it grin if you want, to show your game face). I think that would get you some attention.

Hey now...if he is wearing the pants...I'll wear the skirt...but with his legs he would probably get more money if HE wore the skirt!!! I could dress up and lay across his stones or something...you never know what might work. :)
