Steroids making you look older

I have noticed that my appearance has aged dramatically since I started using AS. I always looked much youger than my age but now people put at 5-10 years older than I am.

I realise that this may be partly because I am bigger now and people associate being large or tall with being older.

I have also noticed that other guys look dramatically older once they have used AS. It appears to me that their skin is coarser which seems to age them and is also quite masculinsing.

Has anyone else noticed that they have aged since using AS?

ive been using AS for 10 years and most people say i dont look my age at all. im 46 years old. my feelings are that it keeps you younger looking.

Perhaps because you are 46, the condition of your body leads people to think you are younger :)

Also at age 46 maybe your skin naturally has the same coarseness that AS would give a younger person so it doesn't age you, I don't know.

It's good to hear that AS has had a positive effect for you. The guys who I have noticed tend to look much older on AS are generally quite young, so maybe it's because the AS destroys the baby-face look.

bro it doesnt make you look older thats an old wives tale .just like it makes your penis smaller. its stupid BB's and wrestlers may look older cuz they always tan.

people do consider bigger people to be older. its not only the face.

I saw one of those supplement ads with a 17 yr old Canadian kid in it...he sure didn't look like a teenager to me. I think it does have a lot to do with size but there might be more to it than that.

Well we are injecting the synthetic male sex hormone, which is responsible for many androgenic effects. Such as, increased facial hair, deeper voice, etc. All these factors can make us look older, but only to a certain degree, as far as genetics will allow.

Nimrod is on cue here. That could have an effect. Me, I still look about 5 years or more younger. Staying in shape helps that. Most 30 year olds around here have a beer gut. I say it is individual genetics. Different people age at different rates and juice could possible speed up this process.

I read an article in JAMA on test thearpy....thy noted a "youghfull" appearance for patients on test....now the therapy was for 70 yearolds.....it may not equate to 20 year olds....but none the less interesting

Just another note about looking older. If you've reduced your body fat dramatically then it's only natural that you'll lose any baby face look you had. The thinner your skin, the less likely someone will be inclined to pinch your cheeks and offer you some milk and cookies.

At my gym

I see guys at my gym that look older than they are, but they also look like they're on HIV cocktails & AS. I've also noticed that ever since I started used gear that I don't ever look like I get enough sleep, even though I do...

Hans - you never said how old YOU were.

Making your statement at age 21 is quite different from making it at age 45.

Well, before I started up on AS ... I sorta looked like a pretty boy... at age 24 I could pass for 19, and minimal facial hair. After I started, I "matured" up... my skin isn't more coarse... but I do have more facial hair (can grow a beard now)...

I like the effects... I'm 27 now.

man im 17 and im the most baby faced person on the planet.. i look about 13 years old, and if i wasnt 6 foot 1/2 inch and growing that would really suck cuz i'd look really young. Its probably cuz i hit puberty late i really wanna look older though im relatively thin lil better then a 4 pack, six pack in the right light maybe yet i still got big cheeks and so on. sucks... worst case scenario i'll do a cycle when im older hope this wont last for long.

At 36+ (soon to be 37) I am not concerned about it. Additionally, I have not been a "heavy juicer" and remained natural for most of my life but I will say that I prefer the "haggard, steroid look."

Later,

You could be right about it making you look older when you are younger. AS masculinizing effects make us look more like men, and in our society, more facial hair, larger frame, and less head hair denote increased age. However, in older men, AS usage is believed to give a more youthful appearance, as evidenced by their used in anti-aging clinics that use testosterone replacement therapy. Whether it really makes older men LOOK younger, I don't know. But I know it makes them FEEL younger, which can have much to do with how a person looks.

Pro regimens

I've certainly noticed the hardcore regimens pros are on make them look older, particularly if they're young to begin with. After several years of seeing Tom Platz (remember him?) in the magazines, I saw him in person off-cycle -- he looked about 19.

I've noticed this with other pros as well. I think the oldre you are, the less noticable this effect is.

semi-useless info i'm offering but once i was in vegas and i saw an obviously seasoned juicer sitting at the slots. his skin looked VERY worn out and aged. his arms were big but looked like they had the skin of a 70 year old. perhaps years of growing and shrinking wore out his skin. in that case if you are going to juice try to maintain approximately the same size ;) by not cycling

as for faces, hmmm..

-women get man faces on gear (perhaps you fully matured your face androgenically)

-test boosts your GH production (and GH grows bones.. people with excess GH look like jaws, the shark, in humanform)

This is very interesting information. It makes sense that AS would age young guys to a point and make older guys look younger. Maybe AS channels you into looking as you would at greatest maturity, i.e. age 30, so it would age or rejuvenate you depending on what side of thirty you are on.

btw, I am 27 next month. I have been using AAS on and off for 3 years now.

Wow taking AS for 10 years. How big does a person get if they take it for 10 years? Don't you worry about completely shutting down your natural axis for good. I have read that is has happened to people.

Very interesting thread. Before I did my first roid cycle at 24, I always had smooth skin (most noteably on my face) and chiseled, model-like facial features. After doing two cycles, my face puffed up and my skin seemed to become more coarse. I've been natural now for about 4 months, and although the water is gone, my chiselness hasn't fully returned, and my skin is still somewhat coarser than it was. I don't know... I've always felt that AS do make your FACE anyway look older than it really is.

I am 44 and feel great. Everyone says that I look like I am in me early 30's. Have all my hair and teath. Divorce will make you old and tired.

i think it does but sometimes this can be a good thing i mean when teenagers use aas ya know why all the girls flock to them because they have allot more muscle and look older like college type so i guess it does

actually AAS tends to slow down the growth process, but in your case it is probably the fact that you are big so people expect for you to be older than what you are, thats a great feeling :D

no offense but you have what all your hair and teath, or is that teeth, just kidin with you

Maybe I am misreading the situation. People tell me I seem older because I am tall, big and have a presence that seems older than my actual age would suggest. I also wear glasses which may have an effect too. Maybe I am putting it down to AS unfairly. I do believe, however, that AS has changed my complexion.

I remember i was getting advice from some dude at the fitness store, he was pretty lean and big..looked like competitor type. i thought he was like a 25 year old man...the dude was 19. Yea bro steroids do make you age more...more testosterone, and all that..its the male gene. What can you do...but at least you look fine right?...and besides, women like older guys...unless your gay and i don't know how that plays with gay couples...:p

These posts seem to follow a general trend. AAS appears to make people under age 30 look older, and people over age 30 look younger. Do others agree with this diagnosis?

Actually I though the same thing after I submitted that post. Men in general tend to associate youth with beauty whether they are gay or straight. So many guys chasing younger women.

I think thats what has happened to me. I used to get carded all the time, now I barely ever have to show ID.

I think tanning ages the skin more than AAS use does.
