Steroids for long-distance running and building muscle

Olympic sprinters have tested positive for winstrol, but I don't really see how it would have any benefit for cross-country.

Anabolic steroids are really a drug to enhance strength, overall mass and used for anerobic exercises and sports with minimal or non-primary aerobic exercise incorporated. Football, boxing, MMA, baseball, et cetera have aerobic components, but they aren't the primary basis of the sports. Chemical enhancement for marathon running would be another area of drugs, and is most likely extremely esoteric.

Has anyone here used steroids and done long-distance running, whether competitive or not? If so, how did they effect your stamina and performance compared to when not using them?

I have noticed a "profound" effect from EQ and long distance/long duration aerobic sessions. jogging, stairs, eliptical, cycling, etc.

Big enough difference that it's now my favorite Inj.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut .....................that's just me.

eq is injectable. anavar or primo might be alright for overall performance, lite anabolics might have less of an effect on cardio

I never hear much about steroids and cross-country running. How does increasing muslce mass help when running 20 miles?

Many of the IOC busts have involved non-steroid stuff like EPO.

Most general steroids will not help you, although there may be an exception or two. You won't be using anything at the doses common on this board, either.

I also disagree with equipoise being helpful to you.

yep! why in god's name would you want to carry more muscle for a half marathon. 190lbs is quite high as it is for that distance (i should know - i used to be a distance runner for sometime a few years ago). 200lbs is still more and ridiculous!

Good question. My running is certainly not competitive in nature. I like the way I look with the extra cardio, as long as I don't get too thin and keep building muscle (which isn't that easy at 50-years old). I just didn't want to use anything that would "hurt" my running (if there's no effect that's fine, I suppose, but I just don't want a negative effect where my endurance/stamina becomes worse). I am a lean 190 -- most people are surprised that I weigh that much -- and feel that a lean/cut 200 (with more muscle) would be even better, if it's acheivable.

yo do you think the results would be diff, if his focus was just on running. meaning less weights more running. even the CC runners are on lifting programs these days.

yea agreed, they are on lifting programs - that's a good thing IMHO. but i know from experience that when i started approaching 200 especially after 190, things started to change. you just don't want to carry that much around for so long.

I have used test, EQ and Winny for long distance running. 10k and half marathon. I dropped the winstrol the time I tried it because the pumps in my calfs made it difficult to run. However, the eq and test absolutely help with increased recovery. The increase in leg strength helped cover the longer distances I believe with less effort. It may not help VO2 max or lactate threshold or "endurance" as we think of it. Increase in recovery, increase in motivation and athletic aggression, and from what I have read eq aids in the production of RBC's. Increase in recovery = increase in training volume or effort= better results. I don't have one shred of scientific evidence, so please don't use my thoughts as the absolute last word, just personal experience. And I'm not trying to contradict anyone. As long as you have done all the research you can and feel comfortable with starting it, try it and tell me how it goes.

You did say specific advice, sorry. Was test enathate 400mg week and equipoise 300mg week. Also Arimidex .5 eod. If it is your first cycle I would suppose that using only one of the two compounds at lower dosage or both at lower dosages would be advised.

May I suggest that you try picking up long distance swimming - both breastroke and freestyle. I am talking swimming 1.5 miles 2 or 3 times a week. I did that and added some nice upper body weight but it did not seem to negatively impact my running as the cardio exercise and lung development was outstanding.
