Steroid Users Questions for Research

gradstudent

New member
All:

First off this is a great message board! I am conducting a research paper on steroid use for my graduate class at American University. I have a few questions for the users. I would be very grateful if you could respond to this message in the forum or via e-mailing me ([email protected]). Ok here are my questions:

1. How easy are steroids to obtain? Do you make your own? Do you buy them over the net?
2. If you buy them over the net do you feel they are safe?
3. When did you begin using roids?
4. Do you do them because of pressures from society to look good?
5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?
6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

I thank you all in advance for helping me out!!

1) they are pretty easily obtainable, wont take long to find a source.
2) depends?
3) i will be 22 (21 and waiting about 4 months til i do my first)
4) no, i just want to be huge and look good
5) yes a little, but i will feel find as long as i am not using heavy dosages
6) not a great question. an athelete can die from drug overdose, but not steriods use unless it it very very heavy and used everyday

Can you tell us how this study will NOT serve to provide even more alarmist information that political demagogues can use to justify increased prosecution against steroid users and their lifestyles????????

It is a research paper for a GRADUATE CLASS. Not for NIH, DEA, or any health orginization. I am one 24-year-old here, not a team of people. Why are you concerend about answering the questions? Every post I have read people talk about there cycles, how to get the roids, how they get family member involved and you circle me out of that! Sorry for trying to balanced paper. Sorry for trying to have a fair and accuate picture of what users think. Damn what am I thinking? Get over yourself.

Very easy, NO...there cheap enough to have someone else make, YES
2. If you buy them over the net do you feel they are safe?
YES, personally...but not all sites are legit or safe
3. When did you begin using roids?
1988
4. Do you do them because of pressures from society to look good?
NO
5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?
NO
6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?
This is not a true statement. Supplements and steroid use do not cause death.

I thank you all in advance for helping me out!!
Now .... you need to lighten the f**k up if you want others to pitch in and help your research. They will....just give 'em time.

1. Steroids are not all that hard to obtain if you know the right people. But they can be hard, and that's why alot of people get ripped off. Aswell, if you're not careful, you could be buying from an under cover police officer.
Some people make their own gear. They just buy the chemical, and they liquify it themselves. Saves big money if you know what you're doing, if not, you can seriously fuck up.
2. When buying over the internet, you are definately at a high risk of being caught. You need to make sure the person you're getting them from is legit.
3. 19 years old
4. I did them for myself. I did them because I want to look good. Does it help getting girls? Yes. But that definately was not the sole purpose, or even a thought when I was thinking about doing them.
5. I feel that the health care system is fucked up on it's own. I feel safer injecting steroids, than I do eating McDonalds. That tells you alot. As long as you do your research, know what you're doing exactly, then I feel steroids are perfectly safe and very benefitial to your well being.
6. I don't like seeing people die.Especially from an addictioin or abuse of a drug. It does have a huge influence on the community, aswell as those that perceive us as drug users.

Hey you guys (users on this board) need to smarten up. Here's a kid that will finally post an article with REAL FACTS instead of horseshit that makes us look like coke users. Answer his damn questions so that it brings light to our game.

I didn't mean my comment as a personal attack on yourself. I just asked a simple question that I thought you would have interpreted as, (Whats the objective of your paper?) ie. Whats your thesis? In order to understand the world of steroid users and high performance athletes you must take time to learn about it. I'm sure you know this. You might think about changing your thesis (whatever it is) to something of the effect: (Media misinformation and alarmism; how it has brainwashed the public into accepting alcohol and tobacco while denying performance enhancing supplements.........)

I don't like questions like...1.How easy are steroids to obtain?5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?
6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

These just make it seem like loaded questions if you know what I mean.......

I guess I'd just like to know more about your paper thats all.

Check out this article - its a great example of what i'm talking about
Also, check the feedback the author gets.......

AMGETR - Again not a personal attack on you -- well maybe a little but here goes...

Which of his questions will yield REAL facts about the nature of steroids and how they can be properly used without significant negative consequences? It just seems as though his questions were geared towards the perpensity of the american individual to abuse AAS and/or the average AAS users lack of knowledge about what hes using....

Lets look at your answer to his #3 for instance. Your answer of "19yrs" is a bad answer because it shows a lot about how steroids CAN be dangerous to one's health. For example, I can guarantee that your body was not ready for AAS at the age of 19. Your hormonal systems had not yet reached full maturation and you probably did not know much about what you were using other than what was told to you by other users. (yes these are assumptions) So, if I am correct in assuming that other people have also tried them at this age and with your same level of knowledge and experience then this kinda shows a problem with AAS dosn't it? Maybe they need to be restricted even more so our youth don't mess themselves up. Afterall even the Bush administration has supported studies that show AAS use up among highschoolers and middle school students.

That said... You are a vet on this board. I am not. You prob have increased your knowledge of AAS 100X from when you first started at the ago of 19 and you, no doubt, know what your doing now. I'm not doubting your competency now but rather highlighting the fact that you started AAS wayyyy to early.

Anyway, I just don't see how his questions are fair and balanced. I think his questions do make us look like coke users.

Another example: his last question ---- heres another ? to consider ---- Does it concern you when people die as a direct result of OTC medication?

dunno if a European is of any but, but this is mine:

1. hard for a newbie, too many scamming websites and sources; easy for an experienced user
2. yes
3. 4 years ago at the age of 30
4. no, actually most of the time i am "too big" in other people's eyes, but i personally like that look. Here in Austria most people are fat and i never felt that anyone would demand a 6pack or any degree of muscularity from me, not even the females, they are so used to the fat men around here they don't know better anyway.
5. no. its like voting for bush, the more the media tells me to do so i tend to do it the other way.
6. no; for Bodybuilders, the biggest dangers are in contest preparation where they have to get rid of a lot of water, i don't compete, this does not bother me. i also don't use synthol. i always aspirate so immediate death from steroid use is impossible. long term risks are probably there but i firmly believe that being fat and sedentary, drinking and smoking pose the biggest health risks today, steroids primarily do better yourself.

1. They are pretty easy to obtain. I could walk into a gym as a total stranger and have at least one lead before the end of the workout. It's all about how you talk to people.
2. That depends.
3. I began using them during my college football career about 4 years ago.
4. I use them because I like the results and I feel as though I am much more confident with myself on them.
5. If one is completely aware of all the risks and takes all precautions while using steriods there should be no reason for concern/
6. No because nothing has been directly related to either steroid or supplement use. If Athletes were smart and educated these problems would not occor.

Well, I should have further expanded my answer. I started at 19 for one main reason - I lost a testicle to cancer when I was very young, thus resulting in having a very low natural testosterone production. So I feel that AAS is benefitial for me, not just for bodybuilding, but for a healthy lifestyle aswell.
For the normal person, 19 is WAY too young. However, I feel, I am an exception to that rule.

Great answer bro. Without sounding like a dick Machi, one should always get the full picture before making some accusatory attacks on a guys post. I am in a similar situation as amgetr, but I as well would not have wasted time and space trying to explain my situation while answering a post - there is always space down the road if bro's need more explanation (ie: I could write a book!). Amgetr's posts usually seem pretty decent and he seems pretty educated with respect to gear; therefore I'm sure he knows the risks of starting gear too early and would stay away from risky practices....

1. How easy are steroids to obtain? Do you make your own? Do you buy them over the net?

Buy them on the net.

2. If you buy them over the net do you feel they are safe?

Yes - I buy from respected pharmacies, reccomended by others.

3. When did you begin using roids?

Age 24, recovering from injury.

4. Do you do them because of pressures from society to look good?

No - I used to have swimmers muscles and model looks, women used to swoon. Now I'm 25kg heavier and scary looking.

5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?

Only a little - I use careful doeses and take great concern in designing the correct cycle. I use other drugs and supps to reduce the side-effects.

6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

How many "athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?" I'm more scared about the way I used to drive as a teenager, or about the drugs my friends take when we go to clubs. Steroids don't kill athletes

GOOD LUCK with the report.

Thanks for not taking too much offense AMGETR. Like I said before, I didn't mean it as an attack on you. You seem like a stand up guy. As do the other bros on this board. I look foward to getting to know you.

I'll bump your karma! :)

Thanks bro. I'm pretty open about my history in a sense when it comes to gear. The more information about my history is known, the better I can learn and others can learn from me. It's just a cycle of it's own ;)

bro you have no rep ,no one knows you and you can`t just come into a close knit communtiy like we have and expect to start asking questions without raising eyebrows. need to learn the rules of the game before you walk in and start playing

I totally agree, misinformation is why people think we are a bunch of fucking gorillas. Anything foreign scares people, if people were more educated about this they would realize the extreme exaggerations regarding drug use.

Thanks for all those who are helping. For the record I was not attacking but that one guy who jumped on me. It was not a direct attack at anyone else. Thank you all again!!

Close knit community? You have 28 posts, asshole. This guy is not flaming, he just wants some help. If you don't want to give him any, shut the fuck up.

Gradstudent I'm still a virgin to steroids @ 19 years old. I've almost taken the plunge several times but the more I read, the longer I wait. Good luck with your paper. Hope you try to keep it as unbiased as you can...if you read the posts on this board, you will see that we are a community that strives to help everyone to make the safest, most informed decisions on steroid use, training, diet, etc. as possible. Of course there are idiots that abuse steroids, but coming here shows that you are willing to explore the possibility that not all steroid users are steroid abusers. You will find in your research that steroids can be done very safely if done correctly. Godspeed.

1. Local Gym, and internet
2. Depends on source. And Site obtained at.
3.At age of 33
4.No, I use them to obtain and retain the youthful qualities of my younger life.
5.Yes but like anything else there are risks to rewards. Even over the counter drugs can kill you, IF you abuse them.
6. No, in most cases it was a choice or a risk in taking drugs or supplements.

Do some research and stick a 20g pin in you ass

Funny. Ok serious question. As a side bar from my research paper I need to profile someone. If anyone live in the Washington D.C. area and would be very gracious to let me interview them please e-mail me (asap00@yahoo). As some of you have noted steroid users have a certain "persona" in the public's eyes. I felt it would be good to interview a user to demonstrate there is nothing different about the user then anyone else in America. Anyway let me know and you all are great to let me into your forum and help me out so much.

You asked:....

1. How easy are steroids to obtain? Do you make your own? Do you buy them over the net?
2. If you buy them over the net do you feel they are safe?
3. When did you begin using roids?
4. Do you do them because of pressures from society to look good?
5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?
6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

.......................................................................................

Me:
1. I always had a hard time to get quality or legitamite steroids, just up until a few years ago. The people who supply the guys who are competing or "alway on" are not going to sell to some high school kid nobody knows, or the average Joe Schmoe in the gym. At least this is what I feel/ been exposed to. I think a lot of these kids who claim to get their hands on "steroids" really, most have counterfeits or the few that have actual real meds, been greatly ripped off in price by super high mark-up's, so they will not get their hands on a lot at a time. I think it has to do where you live, as in Northern Jersey where I am from a lot of the dudes at least the ones I know, or grew up with/come in contact w/ try to scam guys with counterfeit steroids. I don't know why it's like this, but it was, and was hard for me at first starting out. Bodybuilding is and has been very popular where I live. Now,...I am wiser and very selective with whom I associate and call a friend.
1b. I do make my own, and also attain genuine big name pharmacuitical products from other means.
1c. I believe one could buy anything over the net, it just boils down to who you know and trust. Buying steroids over the internet, you are almost always doomed to get ripped off 8-10 times if you think you can just type what you want in a search engine and go with what looks good. Usually beginners go with that option or the like... Result, either with fake, or no product and/or no reply back at all after all is said and done.

2. I don't think it is safe to do anything over the net that is illegal. It is not advisable, but sure anything is possible if one were to do so. Again,....all ends up with trust, a little bit of smarts/ good paranoia, and knowing and feeling comfortable with who is on the other end.

3. I started using steroids when i was about 20 years old. I am 29 right now, and have altered my body drastically from the combo of hard training, eating, and using steroids.

4. I have never been the type of person to do something because "somebody else" thought I should, ...quite the opposite I am. Usually the guys you see in the gym who claim to only "lift" or do steroids for female approval,...don't last or are not serious about bodybuilding. If there are they are very few that do. Getting back,..I like how they help me attain a certain physical look and without them this look is just not physically possible. I like the look. What appeals to one person, may not appeal to the other... I always strived for that "juiced up" look and now I have it. I do get a lot of people who stare at me, and have always have gotten good critisism. I guess i am doing something right, and i hardly look natural.

5. Health warnings,.....Aahh... Well, most if not a great percentage of the "suppossed health risks" attributed to Anabolic/androgenic steroids are greatly exaggerated or surprisingly enough downright lies. I know this may seem suspect or biased with motive comming from an obvious user, but I have nothing to really to gain from saying this, other than I would not ingest or take something I knew for a fact that would do "more harm than good" no matter what it did or promised. In the end, just not worth it. I like to think of myself as a responsible, educated person who thinks before he does....
As far as the very real risks from steroids, they are differnt from person to person, and from what drugs you are taking. (androgenic/Anabolic) I have listed what I know/feel to be true as possible sides. As far as I know nothing is perminant, unless you wind up with liver or kidney problems, but even at very large doses over long periods at a time very unlikely in most cases. You may or may not, but this is the concern and way it goes with medications in general that you have to consider kidney and liver functions and break times from long dosing periods. Having children, is one issue brought to my attention with steroids. I am concerned with, but in almost all cases the male body's natural testes flow is returned to normal after a peroid of time off. Sure there is a chance of it not returning to normal, but unlikely. Also precautionry steps as banking you sperm in extreme cases could be a very real option for thre "just in case." Look at Anrold Schwartezenegger(sp?) The Rock, and all the guys in professional sports as prime examples of this. They never has any real problems or problems fathering children, or attributed to AAS. knowing this,...I do feel better about my responsible usage. Gynocomastia is the only very common side of steroid usage, but is completely/ fixable, and non life threatening. Again, liver and kidney problem are there,...but as withthe case with many prescription drugs ingested or used orver long peroids of time. Moderation and responsible educated usage is the key to hurdling this problem.

6. The claims that Steroids having caused people to die. Complete nonsense, and ridiculious. Steroids whether Anabolic or Androgenic are simply artificial reconstructs of the male hormone testosterone already produced in the male body. They are hormones that regulate male functions of growth and well being. If one were to clinically "overdose" on hormones all that would happen as a result as the unusable substances would be excreted an unnecessary strain put on the kidneys or liver for that peroid of time. When people talk about althletes dying from steroids, they are trying to attempt to push this new fad that puts the steroid users of today into the catagory and same light as a crack heroin user,...as a do anything, hopelessly addicted drug addict that is a menace to society. In reality it is quite the opposite. Most guys who use steroids are just guys who want to keep, or be in shape, hard working, and just want to be left alone with all this nonsense. I think the government is pusher harder on steroids because of politicial reasons and since they know they will never win the "war on drugs" with the real hard stuff. this is an easy target.

Hope I helped

Bt

1. I wouldn't say really easy, a scammer is,lol

2. I feel they are safe when I get them in my possesion and look them over and ask other vets if they are legit.

3.22 after doing lots of research on my own.

4.I started taking them to bodybuild plain and simple. I have always been facsinated by the huge guys like Arnold Schwarzenegger and the guys I would see in Flex. I never used or thought of girls as a reason for doing it either, I do it for me and me alone. Because I love to lift weights and see my results in the mirror honestly.

5. I think health reasons are only a concern to those that have never used and don't know what they are doing. In my opinion it's safer then pounding down a bottle of Jack Daniels or a case of beer.

6. I'm concerned because I would like to know what they did to kill them, but I think life is full of risks. It's a risk to drive to the store to buy food, you don't know if some drunk driver is gonna slam into you and kill you. Everybody choses what risks they want to take in life, be it jumping out of an airplane or having unprotected sex. I just wish the government would treat those of us that do AAS like the two listed above. :worried:

Right on.

1. How easy are steroids to obtain? Do you make your own? Do you buy them over the net?

A: It's easy once you find a good source. That may take a little trial and error. I've been either ripped off for the cash once and bought bogus juice twice. I do not make my own, nor do I buy over the net (providing you mean store fronts and not by sending an e-mail to a source found on the net).

2. If you buy them over the net do you feel they are safe?

A: There are cetain brands of steroids that have a very good reputation for being efficacious and safe. Those you buy.

3. When did you begin using roids?

A: 5 years ago.

4. Do you do them because of pressures from society to look good?

A: No, I'm now 55 years old and the make me feel like a man again.

5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?

A: Hell yes! Certain steroids can be very damaging to the body if not carefully monitored.

6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

A: Show/name me one ATHLETE who has died directly from using steroids! Fuck! It is all speculation! or some other physical problem in combination with the use of some supplement. Ephedra got a bum wrap.

I certaininly hope you're not one of those "brains full of mush" liberal arts fucks....

PEACE

6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

Me:
