Stephen Takacs threads - please read!

Guys, I just got off the phone with Stephen Takacs dad. This has to stop.

Stephen is developmentally disabled with learning disablities. He is known to the people in the North East at the different bodybuilding competitions, and his father told me he is treated very kindly by the competitors and promoters. They understand his handicap and appreciate the sincerity of his dedication to the sport.

In the last couple weeks (since Stephen's site was discovered by the internet community) Stephen has been flooded with very ugly emails. At first his dad tried to shield him from this, but last night he had to sit down and explain to Stephen what was going on. That must have been extremely hard for both Stephen and his dad. (His dad will be emailing me later tonight. I hope to be able to post his email some time later.)

The entire situation is becoming very hurtful to Stephen's family. He is a handicapped kid who hasn't hurt anyone, yet he has become the subject of a great deal of ridicule and abuse. I would sincerely hope that everyone could have the decency and maturity to stop. This kid may not have as many advantages in this world as we all have, and he doesn't deserve to lose the things he enjoys. (His father finally explained to him what was going on after trying to shield him because he knew Stephen would be taking the stage in upcoming shows... and he didn't want him cat called and abused when he was on stage.)

Stephen's father struck me as an intelligent, insightful, caring man who genuinely loves his son. I don't know if many of you can put yourself in his shoes for a few moments, but how would it make you feel if this was a member of your family? Someone you struggled to raise? Someone you were atually proud of because despite his handicap - he turned out a kind and decent person. That is the pain Stephen Takacs father is experiencing right now - and it is not deserved.

(THERE ARE A LOT OF SITES RUNNING STEPHEN TAKACS THREADS. I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IF PEOPLE COULD CROSS POST THIS TO THOSE THREADS AND ASK THE MODS ON THOSE SITES TO HELP PUT A STOP TO THIS.)

I think anyone that commented negatively or sent him negative e-mails should e-mail him again. This time with an APOLOGY.

I feel horrible for the one post and link I provided about www.stephentakacs.com I thought it was some guy in his twenties he was a bit scrawny, but lifted, and participated in the lightweight bodybuilding divisions at regular shows. I truly didn't know he was just a teenager, let alone a mentally disabled kid. People have also been posting this kid's website and tearing him apart on www.network54.com, under Ghazi's BodyBuilding Forum. He is also getting torn up on some other sites. Christ, how did the word spread on this kid so fast? Who the hell found, then started, this crap? I am now going to send an apologetic letter to both Stephen and his father for any pain I have caused by my one post concerning Stephen.:bawling:
 
but what if this guy wasnt disabled and just another dude tryin to make it?....would u all feel diffrent,....ive seen alot of flames on here...point being, DONT BE A DICK.....no one is the same and most of us are far from perfect, even tho he is disabled he is out their doin it, most of us dont even have the balls to wear a speedo

That thread just wouldn't die. I think most members who commented negatively... wouldn't have, had they known of his disabilities.

In retrospect of course it is terrible what was said about the poor guy- but if this fact was known from the beginning no one with half a conscience would have ever made fun of him.

But the fact is that it wasn't- i'm sure everyone that said anything on the thread feels bad- and as for those that actually email him, well, that's taking it a little too far.

What I'm about to say... I mean w/o malice: IMO, whoever created Stephens website was inviting the circumstances that are now taking place. Its common knowledge that most people in the(internet)world, given the opportunity, will be mean to someone who is different. The math is simple... if guys with considerably better bodies came accross that site, SOME were going to go to town on him. Exposing Stephen's photos on a site like that was a mistake... he needed to be more protected than that.
 
I think what people missed when they posted the Stephen Takacs threads... and their own comments on them... was that other people would take it a step farther and start attacking the kid and sending him ugly hate mail. We all have a tendency to judge other people by ourselves... and because we would never send a hate mail to some kid... we assume other people wouldn't either.

Wrong.

There are some sick f-cks out there. They used the links to Stephen's site and the negative postings as fodder to take the whole situation one step farther. It definitely turned into a very ugly thing that I don't think most people would have ever wanted to have been a part of.

I just got an email from Stephen's dad. Along with everything else... Stephen has recovered from major heart surgery... and his dad commented on how much he admires Stephen's determination to still get in the gym a couple hours a day and train.

Man, that kid has walked a tough road.
 
this is really bad...i saw the site and it wasn't clearly marked that he was handicapped was it? it looked like your basic jackass internet site (http://www.blackpeopleloveus.com) making a joke out of something...if i was making that website...the first thing that would come to mind would be that ppl are gonna think it is some kind of sick joke...STILL there is no excuse for emailing him
 
I have spent a considerable amount of time researching the effects of AAS on the immune system. My thread was gone in one day, apparently no one cared. A thread about this poor guy got way too much attention.

Lets keep our priorities in line.

I also think this guy could use some words of encouragement.

SG - thanks for posting this, but if you know Takacs, which you apparently do (phone call???), then why the hell didn't you post this when this whole bullshit started, not a week later?

Either way good move, but this should have come a lot sooner if you knew about it.

What makes you think I know him?

I tracked his dad down after seeing the posts about Stephen. The first time I spoke with his him was today.

I can't fucking believe some of you guys are gonna come on here now that you learned the truth about this guy and say how fucked up it is that the whole thread was put up about him in the first place. I went through the whole damn thread and nobody took up for the guy one fucking time, besides the occasional comment about him maybe being mentally disabled. I'll tell you what, I've made fun of a lot of people and I still do to this day, and the second I saw this guys web site I knew he was not ALL HERE. I mean look at the guys face in half the pictures, come on.
I'm in no way saying that it was such a terrible thing what you guys said in that thread, I couldn't care less, but don't be a asskissing pussy and come on here now and act like your fucking jesus. If anyone had something to say about the FUCKING TERRIBLE comments that were said about this guy in the first thread you should have been a man and said it then. Nobody likes two faced cowards. One more thing, if you honestly didn't have the slightest clue this guy was mental then you got some serious issues yourself.

I get your point Watson, but it's awful easy to throw rocks when people are walking away. On the subject of defending the boy, where were you during the whole thing?

After seeing the original post myself, I did a little internet searching. I saw that he competed in other shows and read that he had graduated college. Some people said that they had seen him at shows and that he was not handicaped. I read what was apparently one of his posts on another board and he seemed reasonably intelligent, though very pissed off!

I guess none of us had the hard facts through the whole thing. The bottom line: we didn't know he was handicap. We might have questioned, but then that's why I researched (and didn't post). We all make mistakes. And, it is very clear that that's what this all was. A misunderstanding. Period.

SG, that's one of the nicest things I've ever seen a person do for another human being. You took control and pursued the situation because you suspected there was more there than meets the eye and it was undeservedly causing someone pain. Only a special breed would make an effort like that as far as I'm concerned. You've got some mad respect from me, brother!

Every one of us has first impressions, which were all bad. However, I feel we were all fooled because the guy looked so damned serious. I mean who hear will say that their very first impression was anything other than belief that this guy was for real. I'm NOT mocking the guy but what I am saying is that the thought of him being mentally disabled didn't come in at all until after digesting it a bit. It looks all to real, at least all except for the physiche that is. So I have no issues with peoples first impressions, Steven's presentation via his web pages is rather remarkable to say the least. It's the following up with taunting and mocking that I feel we could have used a lot better judgement. But a lot of that is solely due to band-wagon jumping which I think is the real enemy here. People generally need to think for themselves instead riding the coat-tails of others. I don't mean to sound self-righteus because I know I'm as guilty as anyone for laughing at the guy but I have said that about band-wagon jumping before and still stand by it.

Oh shit! He’s disabled? Damn, I thought he was just arrogant from the post that was on another board. Now I feel like crap. People actually e-mailed this guy? Why? That’s going for blood, not just talking among us about it. I’m not pushing off blame because I went for the throat just as much as the next guy. I just hate arrogance, and that was the catalyst.

On almost every page of that post someone said "Hey people wake up, the kid is mentally challenged" or something to that degree... yet all those people kept posting negatively...

...and some apparently sent the poor guy disparaging email. Shame, Shame. Get a life. Send the guy an email praising him to make things better.

That kind of activity makes these boards look really bad.. as if places like this don't get enough negative attention as it is.

I disagree with this completely. I definitely played a major part in bashing this guy on this board and others. I even started a thread about him over at Steriodology, which is now deleted. I feel like an asshole for doing it now that SG told the other side of the story. I was wrong for doing what I did and I don't feel like an asskisser for admitting it. I acknowledged what I did and I posted SG's thread at Steriodology and other places to try to make right the wrong that I did. You're way off base with this. There's nothing wrong with people admitting fault and owning up to it when they're wrong.
 
He trains, goes on stage, eats good(I'm guessing), and has a web site. Thats what alot of BB'ers do. I aint gonna get up on stage and I've been training 9 years. The way I see it is that he is one of us. Period. Granted he isnt as gifted as most of us are he is still doing his/our thing and we MUST support him. I train with a ex-Olimpia contender(he finished top 10) and he supports me 100%, I will never look like him but he is there for me. Thats what we need to do for OUR bro Stephen Takacs.

What made you think to call his father?...how did you get his number?..why would you call someone out of left field, that you dont know and tell him people are making fun of his son on the internet. I think you said some shit about him, felt bad afterwards and after seeing everyyone ripping on the kid, made up some story about calling the father. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me.
 
The one thing you guys have to understand is how many joke threads have we had on this board. There have been decieving post before and I do not honestly believe the majority of people who responded and me would have if we knew it wasn't a hoax. Its sad, but just a misunderstanding for most of us.

Well it still doesn't change the fact that he puts up a website of him in speedos looking like honestly a joke and nobody expects anyone to flame a little when they see this?? Also I am having a little hard time believing that sofa has even talked to the father. Ok now, I'm starting to feel a little shitty for being a part of this myself....."BUT", this would not have happened if it were made known what his situation/condition is, even if it were just a blurb stating his overcoming and functioning through such an adversity.
ie: Steven Takacs, a well know local hero, has shown his unwavering dedication to the sport of bodybuilding. He has shown that "challenged" is just that, "a challenge", and he has stood in the face of and conquered.

I'm sure something like that would have indeed stopped this internet heckling from ever happening. Unfortunately, for all I knew or anyone in the general public knows, this was some idiot who had grand delusions and had to be put in his rightful place. For all we knew, he was the poster child of ACTUAL guys we witness at the gym everyday.

Now if this is true about Steven, then I am sorry and I'm sure everyone who has heckled and laughed at his expense is sorry.


For all the people who might say: "Look at him, can't you tell he's challenged". What I say to that is wouldn't that be politically incorrect to assume/profile someone by looks alone. I'm sure people who are "challenged" would take offense to that type of typecasting.

Hopefuly they will put something on his site that does explain things a little better. Then I'm sure he would have the support of the BBing community. We all need support thats part of our sport and why most of us are on this site. He is entitled to support to, I hope he sees this and other threads and can forgive us that laughed out of ignorance. I sure he is strong enough to do that.
 
You know there are all degrees of handicaps.

Maybe the guy knows he's not perfect but he may have enough reading skills that whomever designed the website didn't want to spell it out for him.

I said this in the other thread and I will repeat it here: We should all take up a collection of spare gear to help this kid out...as a token of our deep regret. I have 100 d-bol tabs I don't need and I am sure many other guys have some old gear they will never use. We can put together quite a nice care package for Stephen and catapult him into a new level of muscularity.

Well... It was just a thought.

Don’t send the kid gear. The father may flip, and would you take some pills that were just mailed to you? I think someone once was mailing sodium cyanide once as a diet aid. If there are enough people to donate, I’ll take a collection through my PayPal account and send the kid an Amazon.com care package of BB books. If anyone can recommend good books.

Damn, this is sad. This is the 1st I've heard about this. If you dindn't know the kid was handicapped and you posted this should teach you not to be such a dick. Not to say I'm perfect I have certainly made fun of people but this has made me stop and think about me being such a dick sometimes.
If you posted knowing this kid is mentally challenged, I hope karma hits with a fat case of gyno. If you emailed him knowing he was challenged you should be shot in the face, you're a sick and bad person and the world would be better if you dindn't exist or reproduce.

If everybody collectively wants to take up a collection and send the kid an apology care package... I'll put up a PayPal number in a few days.

Nobody is sending a care package. Learn to read. It might help you a little.

I simply said I would ask his dad about it if a number of people wanted to do it. My personal belief is it is a bad idea; however, if it is going to happen, I'd prefer to make sure that it was respectfully arranged rather than being done in a half assed fashion that could make a difficult situation worse.

You know what this whole situation comes down to? Somebody thought it would be a good idea to create a web-site featuring a 145lb kid with 19%BF, oiled right up, striking various bodybuilding poses.

I just received a reply email from Stephen Takacs Dad... I had sent an email apology for the ONE POST I wrote making fun of him. I expressed how I didn't know he was a mentally disabled kid. Well, this guy writes back that he is thinking of suing me for all the "emotional suffering" I, and others, have caused by sending Stephen "threatening, harrassing letters to a known disabled person". First off......

1. I didn't know he was disabled, and NOWHERE ON HIS WEBSITE DOES HE SAY STEPHEN IS DISABLED.

2. I didn't threaten or harass anyone.

3. How the hell did Stephen's father even know what I wrote? Everything he heard about my post is ONLY OF WHAT I TOLD HIM.

4. STEPHEN'S FATHER SHOULD HOLD SOME ACCOUNTABILITY for all of this. Dude, you don't put up a website with a 135lb. kid with 20% bf and virtually no muscle mass and definition, oil his ass up like a car, and make him do dumb ass looking faces while doing bodybuilding poses, all the while posting no disclaimer of his mental disability, AND STILL EXPECT THAT NO ONE WILL ISSUE AT LEAST ONE CRITISM OR JOKE. Christ, when you put something on the internet, you should know millions, if not billions, of people have the potential of seeing it. And CREATING AN EMAIL ACCOUNT FOR WEBSITE VIEWERS WITH "COMMENTS" DOESN'T HELP EITHER.

5. The bottom line is that nothing good can be accomplished by making a website for a disabled kid whose own father doesn't have enough mental competency to understand the pyschological effects of having his son put on show for millions of people to make fun of him. Even if you wanted a website, WHY THE HELL DID YOU CREATE AN EMAIL ACCOUNT SO STEVEN CAN GET ALL THOSE EMAILS? Did you really think that the majority of email letters were going to be positive? Are you a moron?

Bro, I can understand that you are pissed... but I hope you can let it go. Stephen's dad was out of line in what he said to you in his letter, but I hope you can recognize that it is an emotional reaction in response to his son having suffered a great deal of mockery and abuse.

People are not at there best under stress... and this guy has suffered enough indignity and stress over this already. The emails that kid was getting were ugly, hateful, and threatening. It's left his family with a lot of exhasperated emotions.

You were gracious to apologize and it would have been better if that apology was graciously accepted.

I guess I should comment on this. To my understanding, this kid goes to competitions and it is the one thing in his life that he has going for him, other than his loving father. Alot of bodybuilders who are at these competitions love and respect this kid for trying his ass off.

His website isn't up to brag or showoff, its ment to celebrate his accomplishments... which I think, given his situation, are remarkable.

If someone flammed this kid unknowingly... hey, no problem. It's cool if you apologize... it's not necessary... I mean, this kid has overcome what he has to accomplish this much... so I don't think any insults hurled at him will slow him down.

If you are continuing to flame this kid after knowing this... then you are a bad bad person.

Here is the bottom line, nowhere on the website did it state he was mentally disabled, though like I said It should have been obvious by the ridiculousness of the whole situation. We even have a post by Stephen himself saying he is not retarded. There are some things you just don't do in this world without thinking about what consequences could arise, and Stephens dad unfortunately made a bad decision on this one. There is no need to even talk to the dad. BOO Fucking Hoo his feelings are hurt we've all been there. Instead of sueing the board members his dad should let Stephen bitch slap him for puting up the website in the first place.
 
This thread just belittles the guy further. First of all, does he really look like a kid? Look at his face, it seems like he's got a fair amount of age beyond being a kid. Second, he probably "bodybuilds" to prove his abilities and challenge himself. By trying to send him a care package and give him pity it just reinforces the image of being a retarded kid. He doesn't want your pity, he wants respect just like any 'normal' person. So if you want to do the "right thing" stop feigning pity and let him live his life as it was before all the bullshit started.

glad i didnt go and shoot my mouth off on the original thread, but to everyone that's flaming people who did, they didnt know about it, and as wrong as it was no one can change that it happend, so why dont we just forget about it and keep our mouths shut next time we could talk bad about someone, it really seems that the first time you shoot your mouth off for any reason when you don't know someone's story, you end up making a fool out of yourself, you see a lot of people flame newbies and all that jazz on this board but in my humble (less than 90 posts) opinion its when people build eachother up, like that thread about scotty-two-hotty last winter that really help people out, yeah its good to get your kicks, but not at someone else's expense.

The bottom line is, I had no idea the guy was mentally disabled, and no where on his website does he say his mentally disabled. Additionally, in contradiction to his own father, Stephen himself has POSTED THAT HE IS NOT RETARDED. I only made one post, it wasn't even close to be as bad as other guys on that thread, also I NEVER SENT A NASTY EMAIL TO STEPHEN. The only email Stephen ever received from me was an apology email I sent about my post.

When I first read the other thread, some poster stated that they had found it on some "gay bodybuilding porn site", whatever the hell that is. But I think he just said that shit, if anything, SofaGeorge knows more about what's going on them anybody.

Did he really write this back in his reply? If he did then F* him. It's easy to see that his son is totally innocent in this and the father is the a*H*. Sure, it was crude for us to swarm down on someone, but that's life. You slap and get slapped sometimes.

We later find out that he is disabled and then retreated. Following up by sending whatever apologies we could although it seems the guys here did not e-mail this guy one on one and were the ones flaming him.

As far as i am concerned, he is FAIR GAME to criticism.

Either good or bad.

But this has to be kep civil.

The one thing that is what i find wrong in this whole situation, is that someone sent him a derrogattory e-mail out of malice.

It has been brought to my attention that negative posts were alos posted on www.muscletalk.co.uk of which I am one of the owners. However I have not seen the thread in question.

As Elite has taken the center for resolving this issue, I feel it is my duty as a fellow board owner to post here (if that's ok?) an apology for any distress caused to the family. If I had been aware of the details I would not have allowed the thread to continue.

Should Stephen's father wish to email me should he need my assitance in anyway - [email protected]

It's truly peculiar how fast this spread to different boards. I mean, everyone pretty much everywhere (at least the boards I visit both US and Europe) was making fun of this guy. I myself guessed he was handicapped but didn't truly feel bad until reading this thread. There's a guy like him at my gym, obviously handicapped and kind of moves around erratically. I used to get pissed at him for distrupting my training (by doing nothing more than walking around & maybe getting too close while I was squatting etc. nothing major at all) but actually started feeling bad when I realized he really put much effort into his training. Nowadays I try to be friendly if I happen to be there at the same time etc. Stephen Takacs is probably the same. I'm sure he tries very hard so more power to him.

Yes, he is.

Extrapolating from that pertinent fact, he has room for improvement. As do we all. Which is what bodybuilding is all about.
