Squats!!!

Ok so I hate using the pad to do squats cause i feel like a douche , but dudes I'm so lean that it feels
Like the bar digs into my neck when i do them without the pad, am I doing them wrong or should I just go through the pain??

Keep doing them and you will gain enough size that it won't matter any more. So IMO id just push through it bro. Good luck.

push through it.... it hurts everyone at first, but you'll get used to it. i hate it becuase it doesn't let you feel the amount of weight that is really on your back... that, and if you use it you better be wearing matching lipstick.

Make sure the bar isn't on your neck. You should have your traps pretty much fully pinched back and flexed and it should be on them. Being lean shouldn't so much be an issue. If you have paper thin traps, then you might have a problem.

Damn I need to get one of those , cause i know it's not my lack of traps , they stick half way up my neck haha, imma try some things people have said first and if it still hurts gonna have to just use a pad until i can do without ,

You probably have the bar too high

Make sure to squeeze your shoulder blades together while arching your back. Get the bar right down onto the trap muscles, there should be at least some padding there. If the bar is on bone then it is in the wrong position and this is dangerous. Dont be afraid to apply pressure to the bar with your hands, almost like you're trying to bend the bar over your back.

Bro if that bar is on your neck thats way bad. That can really screw you up man. Get that bar down on your traps!

So moved bar down and made sure to squeeze shoulder blades and worked perfect!!! Thanks dudes , still hurt but I think it's just a normal hurt

Good stuff bro. A little pain is normal till you get used to it. Then the only pain will be from your legs and ass and that's what you want.

INSANE!!!! I have a back back and i Couldn't imagine how bad the younger guys back will be in 10 years.

Yeah buddy , my back is bad too !! couple years of doing workouts with bad form puts you in rough shape , and most personal trainers are skinny dudes who really don't know much at all

Bad training, Motorcycle wrecks and getting old hurt my back
LOL.. So so right on the trainers.!
I do squats, but mix in more leg press's and lunges to prevent my back from going out.

Yeah man me too , love the leg presses now , no back movement , I hate not doing DLs though so I do them anyway lol, maybe my back will heal on it's on if it gets stronger ? Haha wishful thinking !!

As long as your balanced it should get better bro. Not heal, but reduce the pain to sporratic and way less frequent locks (if you get them).
I do tons of DL's for the erectors to stable the lower spine. Then I make sure to do heavy abs/obliques to counter balance the bigger and tigher erectors pulling back more.
Was having lockups every week or 2 before upping my DL count. Haven't had one in 5+ months now :-)

That's because most personal trainers aren't bodybuilders. If you ever notice the people they train are mostly just old and fat that need to lose weight so they've got most of them doing hiit, well in my gym at least. I was watching one of the trainers show someone how to squat the other day and wanted to go over there and be like NA bro that's not how you do it....you do it like this. Lol:D

you are exactly right... most PT's are just salesman... atleast the ones in the franchise gyms around the country. worst thing you can do is give one your number

now the top tier PT's that train actors and pro athletes actually know their stuff.
