Regular consumption of soy protein-containing foods and beverages may reduce the risk of prostate cancer in men by as much as 30 per cent, according to a new meta-analysis.

The study, published by the International Journal of Cancer, reviewed eight population studies that investigated consumption of soy protein-containing foods in relation to prostate cancer in men.

It was carried out by Dr Lin Yan, director of cancer research for Solae, and Edward Spitznagel, professor of mathematics at Washington University.

They say the studies demonstrated a dramatic 30 per cent reduction in the risk of prostate cancer in men who regularly consumed soy protein-containing foods.

The finding of the study is also supported by a cross-national analysis of prostate mortality rate in relation to nutritional factors using data from United Nations sources, said the authors.

In the 42 countries for which the appropriate data is available, soy consumption is correlated to a significantly lower mortality rate from prostate cancer. The protection from soy is demonstrated to be at least four times greater than from any other dietary factors that were analyzed.

"In addition to preventing prostate cancer, other benefits of incorporating soy protein in a daily diet are slowly coming to light including maintaining overall health, lowering cholesterol, and slowing the development of diabetes," added Dr Yan.

COOL now google search for the adverse affects of soy on men from clinical studies and post them!

Who says to eat soy?

This article is about soy protein

and I've not read any peer reviewed studies about negative effects of soy isolate on young men

Some comments ... I am no expert:

In the "old days", soy based protein powder was #1 on the shelf. Milk, this powder, and gelatin were a bodybuilder's additional protein. I never saw any harm from this ... and saw a lot of muscle growth together with hard work and recovery.

I am also aware that many other cultures emphasize soy based foods and these people are free from many cancers, strokes and heart disease than we are.

For people who are allergic to milk, soy based "milk", icecream and other products are a godsend.

Soy is an imcomplete protein, so a consumer is going to have to eat some eggs, dairy or flesh with it.

My Docs steer men away from any soy product. They claim it raises estrogen levels and this causes prostate cancer.

I have a feeling that soy is just a good source of incomplete protein and other claims are not completely proven. The readings are interesting, though.

No there is just a compound in soy protein that acts as a weak estrogen, think SERMS here :artist:

At least thats what I've read several places including proteinfactory.com. and not to mention soy is supposed to be muy beneficial for your heart.
