Some quick questions...

I've been strength training for about 2 years now and I was wondering where I stack up compared to everyone else in the scheme of things. I'm at BW 260 and my bests are:

Deadlift: 405
Squat: 315
Bench: 270
Clean and press: 205

Am I strong enough to compete in powerlifting comps, or do I still have a while to go?

Also, I've recently hit a 205 single with clean and pressing and that went up well, but in the same cycle building up to it I couldn't do 185 for a triple. I tried to backcycle now and started with 155 for a set of 5, then 165 for a set of 5, and today 175 for a set of 5, but 175 was really difficult and took a great deal of energy out of me. I was wondering if I should maybe try the 5,4,3,2,1 method and build up to a larger single, then drop to a high volume routine to get the high rep strength up? Or should I drop down to a high volume routine now?

The rest of the lifts I have a plan of what to do for the next few cycles, but I just can't seem to figure out a decent clean and press routine. Thanks in advance for any advice.

At 260 pounds you have a ways to go before you can compete with those numbers. You could still probably compete at some amateur competitions but won't get too far. Keep up teh good work though.

I'm assuming I would compete in the 275 lb class, right? Are there required totals to qualify to compete for each weight class, or could I enter and just not do well at all compared to others in the same class?

What are some good numbers in those 4 lifts that I should hit before considering competing?

You can always compete you just need to find a local competition for you to go to. Probably have to join the federation in order to compete. Only big meets have qualifying totals like national or world level comps. First and foremost compete with yourself and don't worry about how you compare to others. In powerlifting you only do the Squat, Bench, and Deadlift. Olympic style comps do the Clean and Jerk, and the Snatch. Clean and press isn't an event unless you do a strongman comp and just happen to have that as one of the events.

For comparison here are the numbers for the USAPL Raw 275lb class (USAPL is a drug tested federation):

Squat: 710.75
Bench: 490.50
Deadlift: 710.75
Total: 1807.75

Wait what are those numbers? The average, or a strong competitor, or what?

Cool, thanks. So you're saying I can compete in smaller local or state meets or something without a qualifying total?

Also, those numbers are the qualifying numbers for that class, or an average?

I posted the clean and press as well just to get a general idea of what everyone else's C+P was. Still, it seems I have a long way to go. Thanks again for the responses.

Do you guys know of any good clean and press routines, anyway? I'm trying to get up to 225 for at least a single as the current goal but there don't seem to be any good clean and press routines, at least that I could find.

Sorry meant to list that those are the American records as of right now for the 275 weight class.

Yes you can do any meet that doesn't have a qualifying total.
