I have been struggling with eating clean lately and this is what I have experienced/observed:
On sunday, at around 4:00PM, I was sitting, watching tv, thinking about how good I have been eating lately and that I was getting closer to my goal. Even though, in the back of my mind I keep seeing that pint of ice-cream that is so innocently sitting in the freezer waiting for me to come and eat it. Well, long story short, I got bored and 15 minutes later I was eating an ice-cream sundae and justifying it in my mind by saying it was the weekend and that I was allowed to cheat on the weekends.
Now, I have noticed that everytime I cheat on sweets or junk food I feel absolutely horrible about myself, and to top it off, when I get done eating the junk food, I realize that it didn't taste that good and I could have really done without it.
We all know that making gains whether you are bulking or cutting or anything in between is largely diet related. So how to do we keep ourselves from cheating? Well, this is what I have been doing and this seems to be working for me.
I will start out for the first few days eating really clean. And after maybe the third day I would cave in and cheat again. But this time, after eating clean for about 5 days, I have noticed that I feel great physically and mentally. I feel good because I have not cheated. And I have the feeling that I am that much closer that making my goals turn into a reality.
Everytime I go to the movies or out with friends and I see them eating a bunch of junk food in front of me I feel good about myself because I know that I am paying my dues in the gym and reinforcing them outside by eating good, while in the meantime all these other people who go to the gym and think they are doing good, are in reality not, because they are wasting away all of their gains by eating poorly.
I have to give credit to Mr. X because after I read his article on dieting I realized why I was dieting and how I had done wrong in the past. In his article it says that for every positive action there WILL be a POSITIVE reaction.
So from now on, whenever you are about to eat that ice-cream, candy bar, or whatever else, don't think about how this is not going to be good for you, but it is going to taste good. Think about how when you eat clean, you will be that much closer to you gains and you will be passing up everyone else in the gym, on the field, or on the stage because everyone can bust their balls in the gym, but not everyone can eat 6 clean meals a day for an extended amount of time.
Hope this helps all my fellow brothers and sisters on diets. Peace, Iron Thrower
