So uh, just found out I'm 5 weeks into being a dad.

I know it does seem like good news to you now, but later on it will be once you adjust to the news. It is a wonderful feeling to be a parents. Congrats!

I'm kind of thinking that too. I've been on cruise control for a while and have kind of lost direction lately. I never thought of a responsibility like this as a fix for something though.

Not too late. Not to be insensitive but if she's 5 weeks prego, your not a dad yet.
Being a parent is the best thing in the world, but if the situation aint right, maybe yall should look at alternatives.

You will be surprised! Kids bring out the best in you and make you want to work even harder to do good things for them!

I know 5 weeks in isn't concrete, it's still a healthy dose of reality.
im not one to preech, but IMO if you can financially handle it of course, bailing on the kiddo would make you wonder "what if" for the rest of your life...

this will be your first kid, correct? god, if there is a god, is a cruel and unusual one. this is your shot. there may not be another one.

keep that in mind.

How does she feel about this?

She just called me totally panicked. I was pretty much speechless and my mind started racing. She was on her way back to work and I'm in the middle of a few things and couldn't really talk.

Woah.

when i have my kid, im gunna force him into sports at an early age, and make him be suave, goodlooking, and jacked, and ripped up from the start of puberty. if he doesnt bang his first chick by the 8th grade, ill ground him till he does.

I wouldn't ever bail on my child. It's just that the timing on this couldn't be worse. My industry is in shambles, I thought her and I were kind of on the outs, it seems like everything's happening at once.

Solid plan.

So what is it you are forcing them to do?

Don't fear it, welcome it. Don't survive it, LIVE it.

Wise words I'll never forget. Actually I just made them up.

Unless I've heard them somewhere and didn't remember. Damn disclaimers!

Stamping License Plates Until they pay there back due support lol

A lot of expectant parents out there. Heatherrae, Myway, HT, Jnevin. Are you all drinking special water or something?

Congrats. kids are priceless :)

I don't know your personal views on certain subjects, but throwing a kid into the mix certain wont help the relationship. For some reason many women see family/marriage as a way to fix existing problems, hopefully she isn't one of those. One thing I know from experience is you need to choose your words with her very carefully from here on.

I wouldn't say priceless, but a newborn does fetch a fair amount on the black market. Its when they age a year or two the value drops significantly.

Maybe you were bought on the black market,

Exactly. That is when a lot of women "accidently" get preg.

A kid at the gym was just telling me his fiance is mad because he wants to push back the wedding and slow shit down. I told him to wear his "own" condom everytime they have sex. That is when that shit goes down!

Thanks man. I've always wanted to be a dad, it's just times right now are so uncertain for me. Like, thinking new career and need to finish school uncertain.

That would be great if so, cause that would mean my parents have money. Unfortunately its not the case, as they are broke. And I'm way too much like my father anyway, which is not a good thing because he's a crazy old man.

Yeah, but you can't prepare for everything. I know tons of folks that started their families when other areas of their lives were uncertain, and everyting is just fine for them. Things have a funny way of working themselves out.

I hope so bor. Since the market has tanked I've really eaten shit. I'm making maybe a third of what I was.

I'm sure things will pick back up soon enough. I don't recall the market ever staying down for very long. I dunno what the cycle is in years for your field, but every field has one. In automotive it's every 8-10 years or so.

My husband and I waited to have a child. Careers/his schooling were more important at the time, so we thought. Funny thing was, when we were ready to start a family, it did NOT happen for us as easily as we thought it would! Who da thunk?

We are happy with one healthy child, but the thought of what we could have had with more children in our lives, will always remain in the back of our minds.

I'm really unprepared for this.

I'd say it's more panic that complaining. It's a human being I'll be responsible for. That's a big deal to me.

so was I, but I found out later, boy was I wrong! What an undeserved blessing he is. I can't begin to explain the happiness and love that he has brought me and my family. I wasn't married at the time either....

Possibility/chances of mistake or error in test?

Possible, but rare now. depends on how they tested. Blood or urine, and if they used a wee machine in the office or sent it to the lab.

Nice. That's a good looking kiddo.

Hon, you'll make it work cuz it's the type of man you ARE. :)

Panic is natural. My hubby had mega panic attacks when we finallllly got our news about Brianna coming into our lives. Hell, it's normal to panic even in "ideal" situations. We still panic-get use to it. :)

thanks Bro, just get though the first few weeks, you'll be fine....
best thing to ever happen to a man, ask Digi when he gets here, he'll tell ya too, and JH and and and and, they all say the same thing...
You've seen the posts before, we all kinda tear up when we talk about our kids....
Viven's right, so is Silverstar, both have great posts...

Ok, now I can say CONGRATS!!!!

It's normal to panic, that is a good sign.

:)

That's a good way to look at it. You'll be fine. Just know that things can always be worked out. I think it's time for a big CONGRATS!!! personally.

jnevin said:
That's part of what makes things so difficult.

just focus on one thing, that's all you have to do, one. What's best for the baby. If thta's together, great, If that's apart, so be it. You need to be Dad and that can be from another addy near by or the same house. Just be Dad, that's with a capital D, proper name. You'll find that to be the sweetest sound you've ever heard, I promise...

I actually know of one married couple who were struggling big time after about seven years together, accidentally got pregnant, and it DID kind of resolidify them. It gave them a reason to focus on their relationship and fix the problems (rather than either of them actually thinking the baby itself would be the fix), and they are now two kids in and strong as ever.

Anyhoo, anything is possible. Good luck to you, and I am sure this will work out for you one way or another and you'll love being a dad.

Unless I've come down with some weird illness, I'm not the one that'll have the baby.

Yeah. It's the call I got right when I was going to go to lunch. I was suddenly not hungry and beerbonged some tums. I'm just scared shitless at the moment. I'll work out hard as hell today.
