Do you guys skip? I hear that 2 mins of skipping equal 10 minutes of running. It sure does take it out of your calves. If the previos statement is true then it should be one of if not THE most effective forms of cardio.
I can't see how its anymore effective as cardio than jogging. The whole idea of cardio is to keep your heart beating at 60% of your max rate for 40-50 mins in order to burn a good amount of fat.
I skip, I find it to be a great workout (though I would not consider it 10x better than anything else). You can't really make blanket statements such as 10x better because it will be dependent on intesnsity at which you perform any given activity. What I have been doing as of late is mixing in my core conditioning drills. Here it is courtesy of Zeppelin from www.mindandmuscle.net:
Perform a cardio activity for 60 seconds and alternate with a manipulative activity for 20 reps. Any cardio will work; running, bike, stairs, swimming, jump rope, etc... I personally love jump rope. Use as many maniuplative activites as you can think of. Examples- MedBall Smash, Overhead throws, underhand throws, V-ups, Squat and overhead throw, tire hits with sledge, plate rotations standing or walking, leg lifts with ball, etc.......
Start with 20 cycles of 60sec cardio/ 20 reps. Work towards 90 seconds and 30 cycles. Progress slowly. Don't burnout.
To be precise it actually states this in one of bruce lee's books, so given his living physical status, i would trust this info... but heh, what would bruce lee know
