Significance of the VMO.......

Intrested in why it is so important to recrut the vmo when training for vertical leap or sprinting. What role does it play, how much could it make a difference if recruited properly? Thanks!

just keeps your kneecap tracking properly, other wise you will get kne pain from the patella going off to the side.

the VMO, loses strength real fast vs other quad muscles, so imbalances can happen after a layoff real quick.

And size. My brother's thigh looked like a calf, compared to his other thigh... The VMO was the most wasted. He had multiple knee op's.

Patellar tracking, so important....

I need to start targetting my vastus medialis more, I'm getting a tiny bit of patellar tendonitis to start and it could be (partially at least) due to a quad imbalance. No chronic pain or anything, so I think I can take some early reactionary actions and prevent anything bad.

Which excercises specifically target the VMO... my tracking is kinda fucked up...

I thought i heard something about light leg extensions.... but I'd like something a little more "hardcore"

Stepups. Not quite hardcore, but they definately do the job. My other brother has tracking problems that come and go. Whenever they come back again, I just get him doing stepups and they go away :)
