Should I see an optometrist?

from zero

New member
Lately, I've been getting frequent headaches at work. I'm pretty sure it's from staring at this goddamned screen all day long. Yesterday it actually hurt behind my eyes. Fucking annoying as hell.

Think I should at least go get checked out?

I remember I got this memo that explained an exercise on how to prevernt eye-strain. Like every so often, I should look away from the screen and focus on an object like 20 feet away for a few seconds. Does that work?

By the by, my vision is excellent. Just hurts to look at this fucking thing all day.

stop reading so much on elite......i get headaches and eye strain when I spend the day reading here.....

my optometrist (or however you spell it) might not be that good. He always asks me to take off my pants then puts me under when I go to see him. I still can't see for shit.

Glasses will help keep the strain down though, especially if you use a computer often. I don't think it would hurt to get it checked out.

If the question is "Should I see a doctor?" the answer is always "yes."

It's like asking "Do I have a drinking problem?" Fuck, yes! If you didn't, why did the question come up?

The exercise you mention does help. Do you have one of those screenguards to deflect the glare? They help a little....

i stare at a screen all day and i don't get headaches.

did you just start this type of work or have you been doing it for awhile? if the latter, i'd have to say something else is to blame for your pussy.. err.. head hurting.

hi, as a pharmacist i am first line in treatment of headaches. i would say that a pharmacist is more useful than a doctor for you right now. plus its free.

there are many many causes of headache and eyestrain is up near the top of the list, but not really. you cant go wrong walking in to your local chemist

cheers, and good luck with it

by the way im not being lazy, but im not even going to try to assess you over the net. too many Qs and id rather do it face to face

Maybe you can score some gear, too.

Holy shit...you're a pharmacist? Will you be my best friend?

BTW...I think this thread is full of shit. You need a proctologist.

how many fingers am I holding up?

:doublefi:

J/k kidding broly.

Bro if you can go to the doc then you should, or try taking Ibuprofen. To see if that will help the pain, if not then yes do see a doctor.

Maybe you can tell me then why pharmacists are so uptight and think they are the gatekeepers to heaven then. I mean half of them in my town wont sell insuln or syringes without a script even though they are NOT prescription items here. Why should you be able to decide whether or not I buy something that the government will actually allow me to have?

As to the original eye question, I had the same thing a while back. Started getting headaches a lot, etc. Went and got a eye exam, doc said everything was normal. My vision was fine so I said what the heck, I would just deal with it. Then a few months down the road, my vision started droping off. I went back in and this time I was 20/40 from 20/15 in a matter of months. I now wear contacts. So basically, for me, the headaches, etc was the begining of it, but it had not progressed sufficiently to be diagnosed for a bit. I would go get checked though.

no need to go, there is nothing he will be able to do, if your vision is good save your money, it would be a wasted trip, the strain is from the puter, do you really wan t to give that guy a benjamin so he can tell you not to use the puter so much?

I second the flap over the screen idea, Because I see it at my Eye Dr.`s office all the time when I go. If he`s got it on his computers, then it`s good.

95% of the time they`ll tell you "Don`t spend that much time on it." You know how docs are.

Don't know if you're on any gear or not, but you may have papilledema behind the eye due to high BP and/or intracranial swelling. Give it a day or two and then definitely hit up your op... don't want to screw around with potential optic nerve/retina situations.

a pharmacy is the only store (that i know of) which is exempt from the trade practices act in that if a pharmacist doesnt want to sell you something, he/she can legally refuse. if other stores tried this theyd be in the firing line for discrimination and other breaches

the reason a pharmacist wont sell you insulin is probably because they are clued in to the fact that you dont need it, and if you die while using it (highly possible) then its the pharmacists ass in court being sued for thousands (or more) and being stripped of their qualification (and job)

if someone stumbles in off the street and asks for insulin i ask them what brand, how long the action is and all those common questions which usually differentiate the average bodybuilding slin user from a genuine diabetic, and maybe ask who their regular doctor is so i can double check their script- thats normally when you get the "oh dont worry about it, ill come back with a script" line and never see them again :D

anyway i supply anyone with everything...just bring me a script :)
