Shin Splint

Fuckin' yeh....what do you guys do for shin splints. They have been killing me for about two weeks?? :bawling:

rest!

rest!

rest!

then strength the muscles around the front of the shin by doing an exercise which is the reverse of a calf raise, ie lift the toes up and toe. Also do one legged balance exercises - to build up the stabiliser strength. start with 30secs and build up to several sets of longer time. You can go more advanced like standing on a basketball or use of of those wobble boards.

I've had mine for over 10 years and have tried everything but they won't completely go away. I think they are a hazard of bodybuilding, when your body is designed to be a certain weight, you add an extra 50-70 or so pounds on top of that, somethings got to give

Its normally due to repetitive strain - I used to get it playing basketball 3-4 times a week for 3 hours at a time :)

There is a muscle at the shin area which is causing the pain
Not a lot of space there. maybe its a nerve impingement?

Use a wall to stabilise yourself on a BBAll or use a tennis ball to be safer.

Lately I've been doing one legged balance exercise on a slope, changing my foot position every session. Suutting your eyes makes it harder too.

You can get a device called the ankle isolator which is a freeweight attachment that allows you to work the shin muscle intensely. Otherwise you can try using a cables machine.

But let it heal first before you start bombing it.
