Sharps containers

dirtydeed

New member
Would just like to take a survey of how many people actually use sharps containers & how they dispose of them. For me I've always ordered my containers from gpz when needed & can take them to health dept & drop off, but man they fill up so fast!!! Just sayin lol

the post office for whatever reason would not send mine even though I paid for it upfront. might be a state by state thing I dunno.

its important to dispose of properly you wouldn't want your trash guy actually poking himself then you would have the cops knocking on your door and a helluva problem.

Exactly Steve, safety is what sets us apart :) why would the post office care if it's empty???

Have you guys ever thought about just disposing the needles in sharps & throwing away the syringe seperate? Would that be unsanitary? The syringe is what fills it up so fast

This is what I do. It's essentially the same thing as throwing away an oral syringe

I was thinking the same thing, I can't figure any reason this wouldn't be safe and save a lot of space in my containers & still remove the dangerous part

Thats why its a sharps container....only the sharp objects go into the container. The other u could just toss out

Called around and couldn't find anyone to take my red container. So I
just cut the needles into several small bits and the syringe up real good with a gardeners hand pruner into an old soup can or something so they're unrecognizable and can't poke garbage man or trash handlers.

I really never gave it this much thought but I guess the main issue would b someone getting poked not the fact its been inside your body. As far as that goes gause, bandaids, women's tampons, etc...there's a lot of nasty stuff goin in garbage cans on a larger scale everyday

We do. We have a few very large sharp containers.
When these fill up they get shipped to a contractor
who disposes of them,,typically incinerated.

I use green barreled needles for my sus' , long ones for drawing out, and short ones for injecting. I go to where the heroin addicts go for my needles and sharpsbin (I call it a sin bin!) And return it back to them to dispose of when I need more barrels. Don't know how the drugs agencies in the states work, but here in the uk most pharamacies (drug stores) and drug addictions agencies do a free needle supply and exchange service and dispose of the sin bin for you as well, hope this helps.
DAZZER...

Interesting stuff guys....I just learned 2day that in Kentucky (united states) it's legal to put your sharps on a plastic laundry detergent tub & just throw out with the trash (see earlier post for article)......simply AMAZING!!

Actually the syringe itself requires biohazard disposal since it is considered biological material.

Here are some websites for you to check your state disposal recommendations.
State Disposal Laws - Safe Needle Disposal - Houston, Texas
Sharps Disposal Regulations by State

My local CVS gives me the sharps container free, yours charge?
I know USPS will flat out refuse to ship since it is biohazardous, FedEx does ship if they are informed of what you are shipping in advanced.

Makes sense, but stupid when you think about all of the disgusting things people put in their trash cans. If they want to be that technical about a syringe with no needle, they should require the same for baby diapers, tissue paper covered with germs and mucus, and bloody tampons

Ya I can understand the needle but the syringe is retarded! Luckily I live in a state that will pick my sharps container up with the garbage

Maggots and poop > male hormones that can end in the earth contaminating water sources or that falls out of a ripped trash bag and a woman/kid handles by mistake

I've always used a large plastic Evan bottle and made sure the cover stays on the needle preventing the bottle from being pierced

WTH?!?!?!
"For the safety of our employees, the State of Virginia recommends that home-generated sharps (needles and syringes) be placed in a Clorox or a detergent bottle and labeled "do not recycle.""
So what to do with my sharps container?!?! Guess I'll tape it up and write "do not recycle" on it.

Label it and put it on top of the trash container
