Shakes and Bars

Since I am probably going to HAVE to do the shakes n' bars thing if I am going to eat 6 times a day because of my job:

What shakes n' bars do you folks like? I mean, what doesn't taste like shit?? as well as what is the best product nutritionally.

I once tried one of these bars at my gym and bleah!!!

Any advice?

I think the Zone bars taste really good, they've got rice krispies or something baked into them, they're good and crunchy. Balance bars have about the same nutritional profile, they taste really good, I reccommend all flavors, my favorite ones are Mocha Chip and the chocolate raspberry ones. I like Kashi GoLean Bars A LOT but they're rather sugary which is probably why they taste AWESOME, they've also got the crunch/chew factor. Last year I got hooked on the Genisoy bars, especially chocolate mint mmmm yummm. If you're looking for something that's more hardcore, like higher protein and no sugar/low carb then I reccommend Doctor's CarbRite Diet bars in the chocolate raspberry flavor. I tried that the other day. Good smooth texture, not dry, pretty good. As for shakes, I have the Mass Quantities Triple Threat 360 in both flavors (vanilla and chocolate) and I like the taste a lot. Pretty sweet, mixes thin with water and are especially good with fruit and soy milk and ice to make fruit smoothies. I also liked chocolate flavor Grow! by Biotest. If you want a shake with both carbs and protein, in other words, a meal replacement, you might like Myoplex Light. I think its 20g carbs and 24g protein. The Cappucino flavor is very good. The other flavors aren't so hot. The texture is sludgy though.
If you're looking for convenience I'd stick to bars, however, as shakes require a blender.

Oh, and by the way, these things taste bad in my opinion: Just Whey protein powder by SportPharma (blech), Myomax protein powder (not to be confused with Myoplex), and Met-RX bars because they have this dry alcohol-y aftertaste and a yucky overly chewy sludgy texture to them. Though, the cookie dough flavor is alright.

If I were you I would try and stay away from the bars. It is too easy to rely on them. They are not filling AT ALL and can be loaded with sugar and other such things that are not much better for you then what you find in a Snickers.

Shakes are filling as you need WATER to make them. hehehheeeee

The only brand of shake that I REALLY HATE is Isopure.

Try to eat as much whole food as possible. It is a much better route. You will be satiated and will "learn" how to "eat again" so that no matter what social situation you find yourself in, be it backyard barbeque or fast food restaurant, you will be able to make the best food choices to suit your particular need.

Just my .02 :)

I know how hard it can be to eat properly during work. Is there any way that you could pack food? I know it can be a HYUGE pain in the tuckus, but in the end, often times well worth the effort.

Just a thought.

Muscletech's Nitrotech smores bar is really good if you like chocolate, tastes like a candy bar!! I love lemon so I like almost any lemon protein bar especially Designer or Pure Protein. As far shakes, American Whey tastes really good....

I have to go with Spatts..
I got the 100% whey protein from Optimum (chocolate) and is pretty good. Just give it a try!!

I think she said she is a vet, so they can't have "real" food back in the rooms with all the pleasant feces and urine samples and she barely ever gets a break to come out of that area.

On a sanitary note, you could get a shaker cup with a lid or some water sports bottles and put your protein powder in there before hand and then just shake when you are ready.

I like Optimum too, just don't buy ISS it's sticky and doesn't even mix well with an electric blender.

Do these really mix well with shaking? Or do you really need a blender?

I'd hate to have to drink grainy stuff because it didn't really mix up good. But shakes would be good, and convenient, yeah.
