Shades Jr (howelad)- Linear/Single Factor 5x5 Progess

So taking after big brother (Shades McCool), I am going to try a linear 5x5 program. When i looked at the progressions and lifts, it reminded me a lot of my college s&c workout. Minus the conditioning.

My goal is to gain about 20-25 pounds over the course of the summer by eating everything in sight (including little children), and sticking to this awesome workout regiment.

My stats, as i know, are:

Weight - 167
Height - 5'8
Bodyfat - 6%

Main goal - Get to atleast 190

Also - Since i recently decided to walk away from football here, i will not have to do any sort of conditioning, yet i still carry my drive for working out with me. I will be eating my meals during the weekdays at the Fiji Frat house here in Auburn. Its actually quite amazing. For $400 you get 14 meals a week, in buffet portions. Which means i can take a to go plate with me if i want. And these meals are big. Dinner is usually a main dish with 2 sides (ex. Fried Chicken, green beans, and ocra) and lunch is usually a good deal too.

So if anybody has any suggestions, or comments please feel free to help me out! I would love to hear from everybody, because i have heard how awesome yall knows yalls stuff!
 
So yesterday i had my first workout.

And considering this was my first hard lift since walking away from football, i could definitely feel it.

I started off with Squats, which i personally love. And of course they were Butt to Heel squats.

5x5
1 set- 130
2 set- 160
3 set- 195
4 set- 225
5 set- 255

Honestly, since i had done legs on thursday, i could really feel it. But getting that 5th set easily really pumped me up.

So then to bench, which really is not my favorite, but i managed to tear up my weight

5x5
1 set- 105
2 set- 130
3 set- 160
4 set- 185
5 set- 210

Felt pretty good after that, so on to Rows.

1 set- 80
2 set- 100
3 set- 115
4 set- 135
5 set- 155

WOW. My back was definitely getting a pump after this. But it felt great, haha.

So i did my aux. lifts which consisted of 4 sets of weighted situps and 2 sets of weighted hypers. And my back was completely shot. But i expected this to happen.

I really like the way this workout is set up and I cant wait until Monday so i can lift again!!

So definitely had a GREAT day yesterday in the gym..

To start off with, I got to the gym and weighed myself and to my shock i weigherd 175.. This goes to show that if you eat non stop that you will definitely put on some pounds..

So my lift today consisted of..

So when i started to do my squats i saw a pretty big black guy walk up to me and ask me if i was using the rack.. I told him he could work in with me and he agreed.. No lie, the boy was 6'5 270.. He said he was walking on in the fall on our football team and i told him my background with football so he definitely was nice.. So my squats went very easy, just because i love squats.. Then we moved on to Incline where i actually did more weight than the big guy..

THEN came the fun part.. Deadlift.. Me and big boy start to do our deadlifts. The student ACT that we work out in is where any auburn student can go lift for free. So most of the time its pretty packed. The funny part is, is that people freak out when they hear weight dropped. So when me and big boy start dropping our last rep on deadlifts, everybody just turns and watches us. By my 4th set I was really feeling how hard my weight was. And big boy was barely keeping up with me on my weight. So the last set comes up. I get 2 reps and i hear big boy say "alright, lets get one more". And i say right back "naw i got 3 left in me". So i get to my last rep, BUST it out, and drop the weight as the entire weight room just looks at me and the weight i just threw down. Definitely a great feeling!!

So i ate a huge meal of meatloaf and greens beans afterwards at the Fiji house. Followed by some KFC later that night.

This workout and eating is really making a difference and i LOVE it!!
 
Nice... good luck with the program Shades Jr!

Remember that if u weight yourself in the a.m. after you take a leak and midday with food in you you'll weigh more... not to put down your weight gain, just a reminder to try and keep variables consistant.

6% ... yeah... eat all ya want :evil: lol

Nice lifts.

My gym is the same way, no one deadlifts and I usually get a few people looking at me when I do my heavy sets. Feels good, especially when you get in all your reps.


So is that guy going to run the 5x5 with you, or was he just shadowing you for the day?
 
He was actually just working out for the day up there, and he joined me on my 5x5. He said he would try to 5x5 with me, which is awesome.
 
Good work on hanging in there with the big dude. Keep up the big work and we will see how much you weigh when I come to town for your birthday.

Good job Howelad I want to see how much you progress on the 5x5 and I bet you felt pretty good to be just as strong as someone weighing 100 more pounds than you :D
 
Today is a training day, right? Post up, then add the post-workout meal in the cafeteria......you actually got me in the mood for KFC, but I am in the northeast, I have an excuse, lol, what is a Southern boy in AL doing at a KFC when you're probably surrounded by the real deal?
 
Oh today is definitely training day. I can not wait to post up the numbers I KNOW I am going to pump today.

Even though this is the south, we dont have fried chicken vendors on the side of the street. I wish we did though.

Started off on my squats as always, and they were still a little sore from monday's lift. Everything was goign great until the set of 3, where i thought it got pretty tough. My back was giving out and i still had a set of 8 to go. But i blasted through it and got it without a problem.

I still love the look on the NBA's "Nothing but arm's" guys faces when i do ATF squats. It's priceless.

So bench was just the same, and i did my nosebreakers as my aux lift.

Bent row actually felt easier than the last time i did it on saturday, which made me feel good.


But the biggest surprise of the day was when i weighed myself before my lift.

I weighed 179!!! thats easily the most I have ever weighed in my life, and 4 more prounds than on mondays lift. It really pumped me up for the workout.

After my lift I ran to the fiji house to eat some ribs, but sadly, they were all gone. So I just went to little ceasers and got a $5 pizza and some breadsticks, which i destoryed when I got home.

Another great day, and I actually already have people telling me that they notcie that I am getting bigger, which just makes me want to try even harder!!
 
Sounds like your body wants to grow....are you off until Sat now? For following along purposes, I guess you're doing Sat-Mon-Wed.
 
Yeah it really seems like it wants to bigger, and im going to let it. And yes, I am doing a Sat-Mon-Wed workout. Because I really know i won't get that great of a lift on fridays after a long day at work.
 
did you lose your access to the training table when you stopped playing ball? That is just infinite access to whatever you want to eat.
