Hi all

I have posted about this topic before i believe, well i think it is finally time that i go on some medication for depression. I have never been on any as of yet but do believe they are necessary now.

So i am looking for help from those who take/have taken them and the experts here too, like docs etc...

What would be the best choice for me, a female, never taken any meds of this sort, i am 29 yrs old. I would like to hear about what meds have what effect and sides if possible, im looking for recommendations or just experiences...any help is appreciated...

thanks

My wife was on Paxil for a couple of months and she had a hell of a time getting off of it. She went through extreme emotional highs and lows, physical symtoms like severe headaches, fever, and continued depression.

Once she was over the withdrawl symptoms she felt far better and has vowed never to go on them again.

There was also a story on ABC news about the effectiveness of anti-depressants related to sugar pills.

There is some good information on the internet of good and bad experiences with these types of drugs. If you can, I would try and find an alternative to drugs.

OH MY GOD! Please do not mess with antidepressants unless a doctor advises you to!
I tried that during a stressful period of my life and had a terrible time of it. Then when I treid to discontinue using it I probobly became as close to being psychoitic as I could imagine myself.

When I stopped using them I understood what depression REALLY was! I was told by a doctor friend that my using them and not needing to had altered my seratonin levels and when I stopped using them I was suffering from the backlash of the altered levels...

So really, think long and hard on this before you do it.

...and if you absolutly must, Paxil is a good choice, just step the dosage up in 10mg increments. Dont go over 40mg for any reason, and 20mg will probobly be more than enough for most.
Avoid prozac.
Zoloft is crap.
Id say the best of the best is Celexa, but being a 3rd generation drug (or is it 4th???) and very expensive, most insurances will not cover it and believe me, it is VERY expensive!!

i have thought long and hard babes...

back in december my doc wanted to put me on anti-d and put me on sick leave from work....i didnt want to use the meds but now i really do think i need them...

since i am not in the country anymore, and i never found out from the doc which one to go on, im throwing this ? out here as i will have to buy them online...

thanks for your concerns too :)

This is pretty much what happened to my wife. Fortunately she was able to get based the withdrawl symptoms and did seek some counseling.

She is now doing much better, but will still have moments of depression, anxiety, and stress which is completely normal.

If you have decided to pursue medication and it is the right thing for you, and it sounds like you are getting educated about all of the pros and cons, then it sounds like the right approach.

I hope it helps you.

Look into Wellbutrin...

Least sides and not supposed to have the withdrawal.

It deals with dopomine and not seratonin.

PM me if you want
