Salads

i whisk together some mustard with lemon juice, balsamic vinegar and just a splash of soy sauce - good stuff. you can add a little splenda to that too if you want to sweeten it up. i also use mrs. dash seasonings on my salad - no salt, just extra flavor. it's especially good if you have tomatoes, cucumbers, or peppers in your salad.

eat that shit with no dressing. put the chicken in there and enjoy. thats how i do it.

Ditto that. Once you get used to it, it isn't that bad. Personally, I prefer fresh spinach. It tastes MUCH better than regular lettuce. Try it. :chomp:

I use balsamic and olive oil, tastes good. Once in a while a low fat dressing, but watch the carbs.

I gave up using most condiments like salt, sugar, ketchup, steak sauce, etc... and eat most foods natural. At first everything tastes real bland because you are used to that extra flavor from the condiments, but after a while you get used to it and start appreciating the natural flavor of foods, IMO it enhances your pallete. I can now tell when I am eating a good steak instead of a good steak sauce, I can tell the differnece between good and shitty coffee because I don't use sugar, etc...

I second this; also try walnut/sesame/grapeseed oil. They add quite a subtle taste to it - you might like it. And have something good on a side - a juicy fish/meat steak - think about it while you down the greens :)

hey atrius you read my mind im going to try that tonight. ill let you know if i puke LOL. it should be good.

yeah i like mixing fresh spinach, iceburgh lettice, and roman lettice....thats good too

and sorearms...i totally agree

I remember when I switched to spinach... it was better, but I didn't realize just how much better I liked spinach until I was forced to eat regular lettuce again...

I get my salads from the galley every day... when they have only lettuce, I just want to cry ;)

wootoom -- 2 suggestions. 1 would be to buy a REALLY REALLY good (at least 6 years aged) balsamic vinegar. sprinkle some of that on your salad and you will never even notice that it is lacking fat. the second takes a little more effort but is worth it. buy a juicer and juice vegetables (carrots, beets, fennel, jalapenos, you name it). toss the juice into a sauce pan, bring it to a simmer and reduce the juice until it becomes thick. dress your salad with that and you will get all kinds of nutrients and it will make you feel good because you know you're doing your body right.
