I just saw a special on sagging skin that results after gastric by-pass surgery has been performed. Does this kind of sagging skin result when one loses weight the old fasioned way?

Sagging, loose, drooping skin often does happen after natural weight loss and surgical weight loss procedures.

After massive weight loss, skin and and stretched tissues sometimes only contract so far. For many, the connective tissues have broken (stretch marks) that just does not behave like unstressed tissue. Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty can help tighten the loose abdominal wall and skin. There are many pages of before and after surgery pictures. However, most revealing is how the tissues move before and after surgery. Check out these movies of patients before and after surgery. The movies better show the problem and quality of the surgical sculpture than limited still photographs.

You can read many experiences about this sculpture here. There are pages of patients experiences posted there. You can also listen to patient experience here. The audio files let the emotion of the patient get expressed much more than written words.

Hope this helps,

Hi doc. I am having trouble with the idea of guys needing a tummy tuck. I can really see that it is necessary for womens' overstretched abs after pregnancy - you have to "go-in" anyways to stitch the abs together. But for men or women with just loose skin, doesn't liposuction by itself (ALOT less invasive) naturally tighten the skin as the internal wounding heals?

Just to add to maycontainpeanuts - how effective are the vitamin E with Aloe Vira type creams? Are there options other than surgery?

What's the normal price range. Say like that male on the site who got that lower stomach skin tightened? I know it's going to be different depending on region, dr., amount of skin..blah blah blah...but i'm just looking for a ballpark figure if you don't mind.

The good doc did not reply to this maybe because he feels as I do: All creams for this a crap and do not work. I know this from experience. Do not waste your money on wishful thinking.

Thanks for the help.

Depending on how much "loose skin" you have -- for ex, I dropped about 15% bf over 5 months for a competition last year (mind you I"m 40 yrs old too) and had the little flap of loose skin bag over for a while - sort of looked a bit like a deflated balloon - but to get rid of it just takes some time to let the skin's elasticity catch up and also continue dieting as there are still pockets of fat in the skin. So to that end, just dumpign weight doesn't mean you are "done" dieting.

But if the amount you are talking about is to the point of looking like a Sharpei then I'm guessing some diet will help but the surgery would be the next step.
