I'm not sure which of these beginner routines laid out by Mark Rippetoe I should follow:
#1
Workout 1
Squat 3x5
Bench Press 3x5
Deadlift/ Power clean (Alternate every workout)
This has you deadlifting or cleaning every 5th workout
For the deadlift he said to pyrmaid to a top set of 5, and for power clean to do 5x3.
Workout 2
Squat 3x5
Military press 3x5
Hyperextensions 3x5
Chins 3x5
#2
Workout A
3x5 Squat
3x5 Bench Press
1x5 Deadlift
Workout B
3x5 Squat
3x5 Military Press
3x5 Power Clean
I'm thinking I would substitute JS Rows for Power Cleans since I don't know how to Power Clean, and Push Presses for Military Press. Which of the two would you recommend, and would the substitutions be a good idea? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
