Reusable Bridesmaid dress? Myth or Reality?

Referring to the thread about the $536 bridesmaid dress ... I want to know if anyone has EVER used a bridesmaid dress for something other than the wedding you were forced to buy it for or for Halloween?

Even the last one I bought - tea-length black strapless w/ a black bow - for about $240 total, I will probably never wear. I had 3 other pink ones in various shades of pink from fuschia to pale pink, from straight long skirt to crinoline poof, matching shoes of different heights - which were good for exactly 1 day, and even then I felt pretty stoopid.

Has anyone EVER reused their bridesmaid dress?? Or is it just a big fat lie that we suckers fall for when the bride says "Oh you can use this for x, y and z occassions!"?

your funny! And I think you are right. I myself have never been in a wedding but am this up coming summer, And I highly doubt I will be using the dresses ever again.

lol! i don't know anyone who's been a bridesmaid and reused the dress. most of the time it just ends up hanging in the closet after the wedding. i've never been in a wedding though, except for when i was 4 or 5 and a flower girl! LOL! i think we still have the flower girl dress hanging in a closet at home somewhere.

I've only ever seen one case of reuseable maids dresses. They were all wearing these darling 2 piece suits-- dressy ones that were black with a tiny bit of beading on the lapel of the jacket and pencil skirts that hit about knee length. They were dressy suits but certainly something one could wear out to a party or a nice dinner.

Had I picked blacked dresses like I'd wanted instead of the red ones my mom pushed me to get. But they were pretty...and the girls didn't have to pay for them so it didn't matter. ;)

My girls had a black vlevet mini dress that was really cute and for the wedding it had a detachable long skirt. So they could use it after and they all have...i think it was about 250 but that was 13 yrs ago.

My wedding dress was saphire blue and I wore it as a brides maid a few weeks later. I will wear the dress again, possibly New Year's Eve if we go out. My maid of honor picked out her own dress and she will definitely wear it again. My daughter used her Easter dress for my wedding.

My dress was from Cachet. I think more brides should really consider just a nice formal dress for their bridal party instead of typical brides maids dresses. Even at a store like Cachet, you could get different styles of dresses, just all in matching colors. My daughter's dress had my blue and my brides maid's green, it worked great.

I was a brides maid in 1 wedding & the dress was a velvett hunter green dress, floor length. Never, ever wore it again.....tho it still is in my closet for some reason....

My mom made me clean out the "bridesmaid closet" this past summer because they finally sold the house (after 25 yrs) and all the pink poofies went to Goodwill. I guess that's what "reusable" means ultimately. One of them I had wanted to save to make my best friend wear (if) when she stood as a bridesmaid in my wedding -- for her wedding she swore to me that she would pick nice, "reusable" dresses. But noooooooooooo. Some how she picked these ungodly fuschia deals w/ a low back, straight long dress w/ poof shoulders (and it was AFTER the '80s). So my revenge was goign to be making her wear the thing at my wedding. Well, the day I cleaned out the closet was her lucky day.
