really bad callous- bleeding

today, i did deadlifts and afterwards i had this callous 3/4 off and it didn't look like it was going to bleed, so i picked it. It's pretty damn big (2x a normal one for me) so the part that bled just freaking exploded. It took 3 band aids to constrain it, and i continued my workout as i usually do. It hurt a lot when i got in the shower.

I don't want to get gloves, but i don't lift for a sport at the moment (more for enjoyment and to look better/get stronger) and would love not to have bloody hands. I don't mind the scrapes on my shins @ all, but I am not hardcore to the point where i'll continue to do deadlifts if i am bleeding.

Any input on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Man up:elephant::finger:

Just kidding dude!:D I've never had my callouses bleed when they come off, if the are that means they are probably not developed enough. When they are developed enough only the outer layer of the callous will rip off. If you really need to, go ahead and wear the dreaded workout gloves, but the thing is, when you are wearing those your hands will not get better callouses so you will be forced to wear them. I think chalk will help actually, because when your hands are slippery the bar will tend to rip your callouses more.

Well, generally there is a buffer zone, bro. Think of it like this: you're 17 years old. You have been Deadlifting for 1-2 years (lets say 2 arbitrarily). You're hands have spent 15 years of your lift NOT holding heavy weight. To undo this it will take time aka the buffer zone. Therefore, let them heal, relax and work on 2 things:

1.) Grip work
2.) Chalk - have you bought this?

who cares, the blood will wash off and its not that painful, its the price you gotta pay for big deadlift numbers. And why would u stop a set if there was some blood? If you can still grip the bar then go ahead and finish your reps...

Because getting 1 rep might fuck up your chances of a whole workout next time? So let me see: on one hand you have one rep and the other a whole session plus a week of painful back work. Hmm...which would you be willing to sacrifice?

I would get the last rep, otherwise I would be pissed the whole workout that I didnt reach my target reps with the target weight, besides a torn callus doesnt really hurt that much. I would just suck it up and stop whining.

the 1 last rep matters to me especially in a low rep exercise like deadlifts

I kind of agree with em, but I have finished routes climbing many times with my hands bleeding, it's no big d, but I've never actually had a callus bleed, so I can't speak for how that feels. I jsut think jdid needs to build up his calluses a little more, then he will be fine:) Some more static grip holds would be great I think. Fuck this sucks being up at 1:00 in the morning doing schoolwork:(

same happened to me i just bought some gloves and used them on chins and deads until my hand felts ok again i dont really like gloves either so i just used them when i really had to

When I was adjusting to being a serious powerlifter I probably tore off the callouses once a week or so until my hands adapted. Used to pull until they popped then tape up the hand and get back to work.

In other words: "Congratulations son you have taken another step into manhood"

Cheers,
