raw egg????

someone i know puts raw egg in his protein shake while bulking...

isn't this bad? salmonela? (sp?)
 
Yes you can get Salmanilla, but the chances aren't that great. People use raw eggs when they make cakes so its not like people think they are at risk when they eat cake.

I use raw eggs when I make omlettes :D

...seriously though, its fairly safe. I often throw a whole raw egg into a protein shake and have never had any problems.
 
I recommend you cook eggs, in addition to salmonella, they are loading the chickens with hormones, and other crap in order to exceed production. I'm not sure they did that in the time of the Rocky movies, when you cook eggs, it does cook some of the protein out of it, I'm not sure of the percent, but just eat 12 eggs instead of 8. I mean you can get a dozen for like 89 cents.
 
There's a big difference in bioavailability of raw egg vs. cooked.
So, besides risk of salmonela, you get less value if you don't cook them.
 
I read somewhere that 1 in every 3000 eggs has salmonella. So the chances of getting sick are pretty small for the average person. However, the typical joe doesn't knock back a coupld of dozen eggs a day. So for a bodybuilder, all those raw eggs can quickly add up, and the chances of getting sick go up.

But I've used to eat them raw all the time, without any problems. Its just a risk, that you have to decide whether you are willing to take.
 
I have had salmonella (bad peperoni pizza) and it SUCKS. Cook those eggs people, 1 in 3000 if you eat 50 eggs a week isn't that low odds.... unless you like spewing from both ends for days on end....

Use Egg whites only... you get most of the protein and almost no fat content, and no cholesterol!

Don't let it get hot or drink it right away U should be golden...

Yeah, I got salmonella eating Sbarros pepperoni pizza at the mall. I was out of commission for 4 days. I eat raw eggs all the time 15+/week and never have gotten ill, but that pizza fucked me up.
 
I just to shell my eggs and eat the egg whites alone, but fear of the samomilia and under my doctor's advice, I switched to homogonized egg whites and drink it raw now. it goes down almost like milk. for the most part 1 dozen large eggs was going for 2.09$ and well the homogenized stuff runs 2.47$ for 500ml (16 egg whites) much cheaper.
 
This might be a rumor, however, I've read that your body can't process the protein in raw eggs very efficiently while cooked eggs are processed quite well. Can anyone clarify this rumor?
 
Yeah me too cuz all i have is a microwave, so i was just wondering. They do taste pretty good like that too, just smells up the room.

I blend raw egg whites in some orange or pineapple juice. It helps.
 
In the shell? I just crack them up and scramble them like i would if i was gonna fry em. Never have done it with the shell. Gonna hafta give it a try, i go through a carton a day. Cheap protein!

Don't fall for it man. Eggs in the shell explode in the microwave, I know cause I did it when I was a kid cause I thought it was funny.
 
I tried drinking raw eggs for awhile. All it gave me was lot's of horrendous GAS. I'd literally clear a room if I let one even squeek out. I like mine cooked.
 
Haha funny stuff.

Here in Perth, Western Australia I just drop into the local egg wholesalers and pick up cartons of egg whites. Just like a carton of milk but it has approximately 45 egg whites in each 950ml carton. Great! And considering say, 3 dozen eggs (36 eggs) costs about $12 AU, and a carton of 45 egg whites costs under $3 it's a great alternative (although you dont get the BIG calorie intake without the yolks).

Might be worth scoping out your area to see if you got an egg wholesaler.
