Questions with Running

OK, here's the deal, i'm really pushing it to lose my last 20lbs or so. I'm on a low carb diet, cutting, and quite frankly lifting doesn't seem to do anything for me. Call it too high of a BF% or bad genetics, whatever you want, the point is that i feel better after a 10 minute run than a 40 minute weight lifting session.

Here's my thing, i want to build stamina. I'm graduating school soon and going to Police Academy and at this point, those 3 mile runs on the street are going to tear me up. Right now its all i can do to get my mile in (7:20 is my average) and i almost want to rip my legs off because they're so fatigued ;).

Whtas the best method for building stamina and losing weight? I slacked last week, but other than that i've run my mile almost every day for the past few weeks. It makes me feel great, i just want to be able to punch out 3 miles like its nothing.

th three mile mark huh? Well first off, start to run on grass or something aofter than cemenet, your body is not used to the impact so youll be experiencing shin splints reallybad. Get some good running shoes, people say it is the runner and not the shoes. Thats wrong if your running distance, you need some good shoes, asics work well. Start with what you can do, and try to get out there at least 3 times a week to do a run. You can do 2 outdoor runs and 2 tred runs to lessen the impact. One day run to what you can, dont go for speed in your mile. Right now you want to focus more on endurance rather than speed of your mile. So try and run for 20 mins every run for 2 weeks, then after that work your way up in time to 25, then 30, then 35. Do it gradually and slowly. Remember the time in which you complete your runs is not important right now. Just try to run the whole thing, if it geta hard then slow the pace down. PM me with your progress, im curious.

Thanks Cheeta, i'll let you know how it goes. I've got a good pair of New Balance 764's that i love. Do you think those will work well enough?

yeah those shoes will work well. I kinda put the shoe quote in some wrong terms. What i meant was dont go out and but a pasir of 20 dollar shoes and expect to not have any pains or problems. Also, if you do start g etting shin splints, stop running for a little bit, and walk uphill on the tredmill(build your shin muscle), and ice it for 30 minutes twice a day.
