So, I work out at the local YMCA. Wonderful gym. Plenty of friendly people, BUT, I have noticed a GYM BULLY. I have recently had 2 run ins with him. First off, I am by no mean a small guy. I am 5'10 and as of today 280. I could stand to stop drinking the beers to help the ole stomach. Anyway, on monday I show up and I see this fellow running over a BLIND gentleman that is being escorted in the gym to get to the machine he was at. That got me going. I held my tongue though. 30 minutes later I see him off on a shoulder machine across the gym. I was watching the smith machine and after about 10 minutes I went over there to switch things out so I could use the machine. He runs over literally and gets in my face. I stood my ground and didnt back down. Wasnt trying to antaginize him at all. I was just stating the facts. He literally told me to fuck off and bulled past me and throw the bench i was gonna use and replaced it with the other bench. So I held my mouth and just infromed the staff. Tuesday I didnt see him. So no problems. Then today, I go to the squat rack. He was nowere around, next thing i see him going to the preacher curl machine and starts loading the bar. He takes the weight clips and throws them on the ground. I stand there for a second looking at him, waiting for him to pick them up. Nothing. He just gives a quirky grin. So I ignore it. I start to do my workout. Not even 2 sets in, he intentionaly gets in my way to mess up my reps. That set me off. I went to the staff and informed them. 1 of the people wanted to pull him away and talk to him, and he got a attitude with them. 5 minutes go bye and he walks by and calls me a coward, a fucking coward. That got my goat. I called him out. He just laughed and kept walking. He continues to be a hostile threat. So I get the staff involved again.
Here is my problem, I cant change the times I go to the gym. I sometimes bring my son with me to the gym. I do not want him to see that kind of enviroment in the gym. 99.999% of the people are friendly and are more then happy to help, let you work in and such. Thats what I want him to see. But if this fellow does something while my son is there, I am liable to revert to training that I have tried to block out and pretend it never happened. It doesnt always work. sadly. I am trying to be the bigger person, and not create a hostile enviroment in the gym, and work with everyone.
What would you do if this was in your gym? If your son was there and this happened? I seriously need input to this wonderful problem. If this is the wrong thread I am sorry.
