Question for ME exercises

I was wondering for those of you who follow Westside, how long do you actually use the same ME exercises for? 1-3 weeks? Also, do you always get a PR on the exercise? If I am doing an exercise for 2 weeks now and seem to be progressing regularly, is there any reason to make it 3 weeks? Thanks

Also, if I am not doing meets yet, you guys would suggest testing my maxes every 10 weeks or so correct?

I change weekly. I tried going for 2 weeks but I always felt stale on the 2nd week. No, I do not hit a pr everytime, but I at least attempt one.

I only test my max at meets. The reason is because I lift like shit in the gym. There is about 50lbs difference between my gym and meet sq&dl. My bench is about the same I think -- it's been along time since I took a max. I try to discrouage people from taking maxes in thegym because you can never duplicate the intensity of a meet.

i change mine every 2 weeks when i'm far out from a meet.when i get 8 or so weeks out i start changing every week.i never max in the gym only openers or maybe second attempts.i wouldn't go for a max attempt in the gym ,unless you never plan on competing and you are wanting to see where you are...but like 1-dawg says..test it in the meet....

OK thanks. Let's just say I don't plan on competing anytime soon. I want to get some experience and some strength under my belt first. I guess I'll just max when I deem necessary to show my progress. Thanks fellas.

I would just like to say that everyone who regularly posts on this forum(powerlifting section) kicks ass. You guys are all helpful and supportive to those who are willing to learn and work hard. You don't seem to discriminate against the smaller, weaker lifters(like myself) and are just an all around good bunch of guys. Keep it up and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions to come. Thanks

from what i read was this

change exercises based on this:

every week - advanced...... (they will stagnate after 1 weak)
every other week - intermediate....(their max will stagnate on week 3)
every 3rd week - novice.... they suck and dont know how to use all of their motor units and such so they will make progress for 3 weeks and then drop off)

dang it sucks being a novice..... oh well

LOL -- it's not that the novice sucks, but many of the mvmts will be new to them so to get a real accurate max on a lift it will take them a few weeks to get the motion down. Personally, I like working with newbies -- they make gains real fast, not as many bad habits to break, they listen, and I love watching them put 100lbs on their total in 3 months.

DAMN! I sure hope i am a newbie...

Well...i have done some bench but not too many of the other exercises...J-lifts...floor,board presses...etc...

I want to start Westside soon...

Damn it...it seems to make so much sense,,,
And coming from an athletes persepective explosion is huge and i like the dynamic portion of the lifting...

I only bench 255...i know it sucks...i am 240...sigh...
But i sure would be happy benching 355...

Anyhow, i am young i got time...no need to get all worked up...

1_dawg........ ok ...... being a novice doesnt necessarily suck....... but, come on...... would you rather say "hi im advanced" or "hi im a rookie"

anyway

i know what you mean about the jumps in weight..... im not techinally even going on a 4 day westside program...... i am i just do dynamic bench and m.e. squat on the same day and the opposite for the other.

i have went up 100lbs on my squat alone...... no kidding......9 weeks ago i did 350 once..... im up to working out with 410 for 3 sets of 2 and it feels light........

i will max out in 2 weeks...... then i will go 9 weeks pure westside and max again first week in february....... i have a bodybuilding contest in april........ it will be interesting to see what i look like considering i no longer train like one....... i will just diet and do cardio while on westside........who knows..... i may have found the secret to being the best in both worlds?...time will tell
