Question for Happy Scrappy...and others too:)

wow he is fast!! i cant run a mile in nearly that time!! i once tried to go real fast but i slipped on the wrapper of the whopper i was eating!!

For HS that is fast.

Kids got talent, lets see what he does with it in college.

I wish I had used AS when I ran varsity track in H.S. I prob would have been able to place consistently.

he and the fast 5K kid will see very little improvement in college. just as gabe jennings totally burnt out.
they already do huge miles so they won't see the improvement most kids see when they switch from low miles in high school to the big ones in college.
instead these guys will either do drugs or not.
but it is sweet to see that we still have white boy talent in the states and we don't have to import it like it seemed for the past 20 years or so.

and I was never a sprinter. the 800m was the shortest I ever really did and I blew my knee out in that. I was mostly a miler/2 miler in high school and xc, and in college did steeple and 5K and xc. although I was pretty good at xc in college, I was usually sick all the time with allergies for indoor and outdoor track.
I never got under 4 in the mile though... that is very impressive.

I'm tempted to train on drugs now and see how low I can get. I don't think they will help as much as people make them out to help.

oh....well thanks for the imput...just wondering since I've never been a sprinter, and there is so much hopla over that one race. Seems like people just want to have a US in number one so bad.

They interveiwed the kid...he was cute....but a high school kid at heart...

800 is the hardest race IMO....I hate it. I ran 100, 400, 4x100, and 4x400...sometimes the 200, and placed consistently in the 100. My coach put me in as a replacement for the 800....I never ran it before, so I didn't know how to pace myself...I was leading the first 600....but got smoked the last 200.....I came in last...LOL...

the fastest race I ever ran was the one I blew my knee out in.
before the race I was talking to this Hungarian exchange student that was really nervous about the race b/c it was his first one in the states. I was pretty confident I was going to win that day, so I was giving him some advice.
I usually ran races from the back a little and then kicked at the end - which is funny b/c I found out in college I really have no kick.
well with 200 to go I took off and was heading to the front when the little Hungarian fucker cut me off (I dont' think he did it intentionally) - in order not to knock him over (I was going faster than him and bigger) I went to go around him, but I planted my knee near him and twisted around him to get out of the way and tore the fuck out of the cartilage in my knee. I jogged walked it in the rest of the hundred and still went under 2 - I really wish I could have finished strong and I'd love to know what my time would have been.

and that season I wanted to be the fastest kid in the country. I had it all figured out and then blew my knee out. I wanted to set the school record and that would then get me to nationals. a 4:09 - but that is nothing compared to what that dude running sub 4. that is so hard.
I just heard about it recently.
and then even more impressive is the dude that runs 13 something for 5K as a senior in high school. there are a shitload of college runners (myself included) that couldn't do that.

those guys will likely be going to Stanford I suppose since they tend to get all the good US runners. Providence gets all the older Irish National champs.
