I'm thinking about leaving my gym that I'm currently going to because I showed up this morning and the jackass whose supposed to unlock the doors didn't. After kicking the crap out of the doors for 15 minutes I left. All the while he was downstairs working out.

My town just recently got one of these new 24 hour gyms and its 5 times better than where i was going. Anyway I called to get a price quote for membership and I had to set up an appointment with one of the "fitness consultants". Any advice for what I might be set up for. I know these "consultants" are basically salesmen looking to get anyone to sign up on the "deluxe" package. i just want to be prepared this afternoon for any of their sly tricks. Gimme some good advice, Thanks

let them know that you are paid up at your current gym til whenever and that you want a credit for your money already spent for going to them...

Hey man, read you're other post on the Chat board. Woulda pissed me off too.

If you want to sign up with a chain gym, be ready for a down payment ("sign-up fee"), plus a higher monthly, unless they have some kind of special going on. Plus they'll want you to agree to a year contract at least and they'll likely push you to sign up for two years or more.

There's also the atmosphere thing. I want from a small gym like yours to a chain gym a few years ago. The atmosphere is completely different. Everything's so new and clean, it's like working out in a dentist's office. There's no edge to them, no character at all. Plus there are all the posers, wannabes, and various other weirdos for whom working out is the last thing on their minds.

Good things are that first, you can't beat the hours. Just make sure that 24hours means 24hours. For many of the chains, they are open 24 hours on weekdays only, with odd hours on weekends. Also, you'll notice that the equipment is usually newer and better. But it's like anything else, you'll get used to it just like you got used to the gym you're in now.

Hope that helped a little bro.
