Question about diet

I did a search, but didn't find much about this stuff. First off, i am very uneducated when it comes to quality and content of foods, so i would just like to know if regular potatoes and avocados are good or bad to add to a diet for someone who wants to lose fat and tone. I am just getting sick of eating the same old stuff and would like to change things up a bit, but have no idea if those two things are good or bad. I know potatoes have a lot of carbs and avocados have a lot of fat...but is it good fat or bad? So to those of you who are food wise, please help me out. Thanks
 
Sweet potatoes are much better than regular potatoes! I like to use "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter ...Spray" or Molly McButter on the potato. Also, Ms. Dash adds good flavor to a regular potato....I sometimes add white tuna to the top of a small potato with Ms. Dash....it's pretty good.
 
That's good to know b/c yesterday i had cut up a potato and put it in a frying pan with a teaspoon of olive oil and then when they were barely brown i put then in a bowl and added salsa...and it was pretty damn good. I hope that was ok. And then for dinner i ate half an avocado, then i was feeling like i did something wrong b/c eating well shouldn't taste this good. SO i had to ask before i go through with it anymore. Now another question i have is that i have been adding a teaspoon of olive oil to my shake some mornings for the fat...is it too much if i eat avocados for a snack and add the olive oil to my shakes in the morning?

Yeah, well...everyone has to start somewhere. At least you're asking specific questions, rather than asking for people to spoon feed you the perfect diet plan(no pun intended).
