Quad size?

I gotta question...........When you measure your quads where do you actually place the tape? At the widest area? 'Cause mine are 22.5 inches at the widest point and 17.25 at the smallest (unflexed), but I hear a lot of guys saying they want 24 inch quads which is only 1.5 inches bigger than mine so I think I must be measuring in the wrong place. Fill me in PLEASE

BTW

Give me y'alls measurements! ( Leg measurements that is.....) Had to clarify for the perverts ;)

As far as I am aware the proper place to measure is directly below the gluteal fold(tranlation: just below your ass cheek.) Mine tape out at 28"(That's the whole leg. It's sort of impossible to just measure your quad unless you cut it off the bone.)

Ok you know what I ment, the quad + the hamsting (picky picky). LEG SIZE..... should I change the title of my post there darling? Ok so yours are 28 (nice) I would like to increase my "leg" size to atleast 24 inches. Will ATF squats help more than parallel squats? What do you do in your leg workouts?

How about that? Post leg size and your leg workouts. Thanks!

28"

BB SLDL or DB SLDL - 3 x 10
Leg Curls - 3 x 10
Hack or Front Squats - 3 x 10
Leg Press - 4 x 15-20
2 sets 20 rep squats ATF

limp home crying !

I have a query........

If my thighs already touch and rub together (in a good way ofcourse) can I actually get them bigger or is that your limit? I guess there's only one way to find out.

P.S. My butt should be in the shower getting ready to go out, but I'm stuck on this website. This place is worse than crack! Not that I know what crack is like......

As I noted in the thread on calves, my genetics probably have much to do with my leg development. But I've also always trained my legs pretty hard. For much of the time I've lifted all I did for legs was 20-rep breathing squats/leg-press and some leg-curls. Use the weight at which you'd normally fail after ten reps and do 20. Each rep after 10 will be excruciating, and take as long as necessary before you attempt each one.(In some ways I prefer to do these on a leg press, as considerations of form get in the way when doing squats.)

Just for your info here's my current routine. Initial sets are fairly light warm-ups, final set is always to failure. When performing squats I go several inches below parallel, nearly ass to calves, but a little short since it is impossible for most people to keep their backs from rounding in the lowest position.

Squats 3x12,8,6-8
Stiff-legged Deadlifts 2x10,6-8
Leg Press 2x12,12-20
Lying Leg Curl 2x10,6-8
Standing Calf-Raise 2x10,3-5
Seated Calf-Raise 2x6,3-5

Oh and the fact that your thighs rub together doesn't mean you've reached your potential. Mine were like that before I started lifting.

Pretty strange.......

Thanks guys for your replies. Its funny that guys are so quick to offer their chest and arm workouts and stats but when it comes to legs and squats they all run for cover. Tisk tisk.........

I thought that quad measurements were taken at about mid-thigh. I think I like this new method. Let's see here. Ooooh! I've got 28. I like this new measurement method!

Everyone has 28" thighs but me........... :( i'll be happy once they are 24" @12% body fat.

Wait! I messed up. Actually you're supposed to measure them right above the ankle.:D

Yeah, but everyone else also has male genitalia. Grizzly, as I recall is 6'3" and 265. And I'm 5'11" and 215. It's hardly fair to compare yourself to us given the size difference(I'm assuming here.) Besides do you really want 28" thighs? That'd be huge for a woman.

Damn it and damn you for playing with my feelings! Now I've only got 9 1/2" quads. Long way to go until I get Arnold sized.

BTW- I like the new quote. That's one of my favorite passages from the book. Long live the Overman! Oh yeah, and it's still "spake" and not "spoke." :)

You really like trying to get me riled up don't you?

Re: Pretty strange.......

When I used to care about these things.....I used to measure about halfway down my thigh. If you measure too high you can end up adding some because there isnt a clear line where your ass stops and your leg begins (did that make sense).....so anyway I thought I was kidding myself when I did it this way.

When I did it my way.....I would be at 27-28 depending upon how many carbs I had been eating lately. But being 6'2", these are definitely chicken legs :)

I'm not sure what I have now......havent measured in a good 2 years.

28" is a bit large since I'm only 5'7. I really only want 24" at mid thigh. Like I said before thats 1.5 inches more than what I have now. When I tell people I want bigger legs they're totally surprised because all the non-lifters think my legs are huge and because my legs are bigger than most guys around here (how unattractive). I'm going to work on my hamstrings. I never really gave them the attention that they deserved. I'm sure I can get some size outta them :)

Thanks for the reassurance B&I

well from 9 1/2 inch yes you do have a long way to arnold....... but actually to make all of the people who have posted their 28 inch measurement......... would be the same as arnold...... his biggest measurement is 28.5 in at 6'1.5

GOD blessed my legs....... they grow easily........ so i never really trained them hard......... and the were at like 27inch......... over the past year i have started busting my butt and they now measure 31 inches....... at a height of 5'11

31" thighs.....how yummy! Anyways what are your other stats as far as weight and bodyfat %. Thanks.

anywhere you measure should be repeatable. depending on your height, 8 or 10 inches down from the inguinal fold (bend in your hip) would be repeatable provided you measure from the same spot in the fold.

I'm 27" at mid thigh....

leg work out alternates every other week between ..

squats = 5 sets at reps of 10, 5, 5, 5, 5
leg ext = 4 sets at reps of 6, 6, 6, 6-8
ham curl = 4 sets at reps of 6, 6, 6, 6-8

or

squats = 5 sets at reps of 10
leg ext = 4 sets at reps of 10
ham curl= 4 sets at reps of 10

I go as heavy as I can!! and I usually yak  after these sets..
using these sets I have hit my best squat max (650lbs) and it is steadily climbing...
