pumpkin and squash question..

Just a bit confused on the whole squash thing.
A pumpkin has 49 cals in one mashed cup and an acorn squash or butternut has 83 per mashed cup.. I thought they were from the same family. Is there a reason one is double the calories and carbs? Should I stay away of the acorn and butternut squash while watching sugar intake and cutting or count them as a startchy vegetable? and exactly how many starchy vegetables are too much?
What is anyone's experience with either of these?
Thanks again for the relpies on such a silly question, but sometimes it's the simple things that I seem to get stuck on.

winter squash is a carb, regular nasty pumpkin is a veggie....well in normal dieting....
I'm told to count pumpkin as a complex carb. But then again, I don't think I'm normal dieting

Thiscan get confusing! Is there a list or suggestion on what ratios of starchy vegetables adn NSV should be consumed while cutting? What about a list of each?
Thank you all

This is not a list just a general rule I have if the veggy is green more often then no it is low carb all though there are exceptions ala peas.
If there is colour to the veggy generally has higher carbs also exceptions ala red pepers. So in short when cutting think green :)

Dang.... I love pumpkin and if it counts as a complex carb or a carb, I better use it in moderation, right?
Okay, So when sticking with more green veggies, what about cabbage and broccoli? Are they alright to consume even though they tend to bloat?
SuperQT and Rooneytoones; as well a anyone else, what are the veggies that you eat most of?
Thanks...

As long as the bloat doesn't bother you and there are no other side effects you experience from cabbage & broccoli, I don't see why you can't consume it.

I try to eat a large salad everyday, so lettuce mix, tomatoes, celery, cucumber, mushroomks and peppers are staples for me. I also have no bloating effects from green beans, brussel sprouts and okra, so I eat a lot of those as well. I don't really discriminate between my veggies - I'll eat asparagus, broccoli, shredded red cabbage and basically any other veggie I like. It's only when I know I want to look good on a certain weekend, I'll avoid the ones that make me bloat up.

Cabbage and Broccoli are ok as long as you don't have a show or photo shoot coming up.

I eat mostly green beans, aspargus and spinach.
