Hi all

Am a little over eating meat everyday in order to get my protein fix.

Can anyone suggest good nutritious meals that are high in protein that do not contain meat ?

cheers

My girlfriend is vegan. She is not that excited about all the chicken and tuna I have been bringing around. She shows me all the meat alternatives. Saitan tastes good and has 30grams of protein a 4 oz pack and costs $4-5. Tofu is another source but some believe that it converts to estrogen. Half a cup of tofu has 20 grams of protein. Half a cup of beans has 10 grams. They make soy protein shakes.. . My gf is 5'8" and 115 lbs at 28yrs so I am not complaining about her diet or lifestyle. For me.. It is easier and cheaper to eat animal proteins. She makes vegan pasta. I cook a chicken on the side and add it in. There are several vegan websites out there if that is the direction you want to go..

legumes (ie, lentils, chickpeas)
beans
wheat protein
broccoli
spinach
green peas
nuts (peanuts, almond, walnuts)

tempeh
seitan
tofu

and of course pwo shakes for supplemented protein.

Are you saying that your over eating meat, like, eating too much meat? or that your over eating meat, like, dont want to eat it anymore?

Because as far as I know eating lots of meat to get your protein is a good idea. Provided its lean meats.

are you trying to build/preserve mass and or stregnth? if so you need to get your protein from beef, milk, eggs, chicken and fish. 1 or 2 shakes per day is ok. dont count any protein from nuts, bread, or veggies.

how come until joe d posted nobody suggesting milk and eggs as none meat protein sources? lol

and i could have guessed it would be joe d to suggest them too lolol

Maybe all the vegan talk?
I believe vegans don't eat dairy or eggs. I guess nothing made from or that comes from an animal. I could be wrong, but I think that's the difference between a vegetarian and vegan.

vegan = no animal products
vegetarian = no meat products

Cheese, milk, eggs, yogurt, beans, and nuts. Whey protein are dirt cheap these days and more likely cheaper (protein to dollar ratio) than real food and more convenient.
