Protein intake

Is there a rule of thumb for how much protein someone can absorb in one meal? I’m assuming a guy who is 240 pounds could absorb allot more protein than someone at 120. I was thinking maybe around 3.5% of your bodyweight in grams of protein, But I don't have anything to back this figure up with. Any thoughts guys?

Most protein from a meal will be 'absorbed'. A better question to ask might be "how much protein can be used as protein instead of carbs or excreted"??? This clearly depends on many factors including gender, size, age, LBM, size of meal, amount of fiber, amount of gear, experience with weight training and experience with higher protein diets......No one can say for sure is the most accurate answer.

It's unlikely that you'll take in more protein than you can "use" in one sitting. I mean, it's certainly not impossible, but I don't think it's anything to worry too much about.

3.5 grams per pound of bodyweight is high. Good range to stay in is 1.5 - 2.

All protein you ingest will be absorbed unless you go crazy with the amount....i have read about bodybuilders who regularly take in +100 g in one meal.....obviously, an average person or smaller person probably shouldn't do that.......

just as an example though, when a lion eats a zebra and ingests pounds upon pounds of flesh, more than 50 g of that protein gets absorbed by the lion's system.....any science that says otherwise is erroneus (or in many cases based studies done on rats, not humans).......

As a rule of thumb, take a high protein intake...me for exaple..i weigh 170 and my daily intake is 255 g.....

255 g / 6 meals a day = 42.5 g per meal ideally.......so i try to keep the meals to about 65 g tops...but more would probably be ok.
