Proper shoes for squatting

I have very weak arches. I first noticed this when i'd spend some time running. When squatting at higher weights, my arch flattens, my ankles supinate and in turn drive my knees inwards. While this hasn't led to any knee problems yet, I figure it cant be good in the long run. Any suggestions as to how to keep looking like a jack ass in the squat rack with my knees flailing around?
Thanks bros!

You can always get some OLY shoes...and some inserts for your arch.

strengthen your hips to keep your knees aligned, focus on pushing outward on your foot to keep it neutral.

As for inserts, I have some that help with running, but provide too much heel cushion to be helpful for squats. Usually I'll squat barefoot.

I always focus on keeping my foot neutral but when anything above 225-250, my feet flatten. I usually use an oly stance, the problem is usually much worse if I spread my stance out.

Honestly I prefer to squat in Army or contruction boots with a 3/4 inch hell and a steel shank insert under the arch. other than that make sure to squat between your legs and let the knees bow outward slightly to allow normal spinal alignment .

Riiiight. Usually when your hips and abductors are weak your knees turn in. Do you squat like a bodybuilder or a powerlifter?

A trick that helped me, if you have access to them, were to sit with hips below parallel, that's the important part, and take a band, wrap around your knees tightly and force your knees out. It worked for me, hip abduction works, it's hard to train your hips without equipment that directly hits those muscle groups.

I also did wide sumo deads, feet to the plates and I'm short and not flexible anymore, good luck...

are you a narrow or wide stance squatter? this would help out a little. if you are a wide stance squatter, point your toes out a little. You want to think about spreading the floor with your feet. this will help you to open yourself (your groin) up while going down on the squat, in turn keeping your knees from turning in.

Oh, about your question....get some chuck taylors
