I have been thinking about doing the unthinkable and "going back"!! I recently got an offer from an ODA group and been thinking about taking them up on it. Have I forgotten all the pain??

why are they always special forces?? I dont get it

dont do it....

I had a few moments (months) of wanting to go back really really bad....but fuck the bad pay, bad food zero control of your life aspect

fuckin article 15 for a tattoo bullshit

^^^^ this...join a VFW instead to hang with "war buddies"

Funny timing. My best friend from the Marine corps just unlisted to go in for SF. He's got me thinking about it too. I miss the action so much. A lot of things about it....suck, but I NEED to do something if you know what I mean.

That's funny I know exactly what you mean, I'm there myself!! And it's usually only the guys who have had hot brass down their collars understand. They offered me a pretty sweet deal too. A close friend of mine is already there, they are willing to give me a 1 year contract with a sign on bonus!! But....
We all know how that shit goes. I have a good job a good girl who is encouraging me to do it with a kid on the way and I am thinking about jumping without a shoot. I am very fortunate most people would be thrilled with what i have. But I feel like something is missing....

who the fuck do you think you are?

American male homosapien. Who the fuck do you think you are jumping into my tread being a smart ass? No room for punks here dude just asking for advice from people who matter.

Strict ass command. Of the uncountable number of tattoos I have, thirty of them went on while in the Corps. Was only asked about one cause my Ssgt seen part of it and that was the end of discussion.

Exactly! Looking at a 20k sign on and ill be back to having fun. It's obviously not all fun and we both know that. But I've tried everything to give me a rush and I'm not finding it.....

you need to drop the attitude bro show some respect to your elders

I don't think you can find anything that will give you that kind of rush. Something about almost dying makes everything seem insignificant and puts things into perspective. But it's all the bullshit leading up to the fun. My hope is that in the big boy military things are different

Triple canopy, Aerotek, honeywell. It took me 6 months of emails and phone calls to get on with Aerotek. Started at 120k for a 6x6 Helmand Afghanistan.

I know. I laugh when other people cry about there stupid life problems and dumb drama. If your not getting shot at, its really not that big of a problem. I can't stand people, there weak and helpless. Lol

Have you thought about going private security?

That's what I do. I Work for CACI right now as a liaison. I have a great job traing soldiers I love it. Travel sucks but oh well. Glad to hear you are trying to get into the contract world. My advice be patient it took me forever and my 1sg was pulling strings for me.

Yea triple canopy is super slow at replies. Their criteria is insane. When I spoke with the guy he said I had to have a deployment within the past 12 months to do PSD. I had already past that so I went for armory. I got certified through the corps as an armorer and they said they didn't count that certification. They wanted a license through Glock or Remington.

I had a bro pulling strings for me with Aerotek since he already worked for them. Good luck getting on bro. Whats your resume looking like?

My resume looks good. I actually talk to triple canopy. Two spots I applied for wouldn't work because they require a "active clearance" mine ran out years ago. I applied for another spot last week with them for a armed guard position. Won't be nearly as fun, or as much pay as I want. But they will get me a clearance that way. Looking now for companys out side of the middle east that don't need a clearance. There's not as many though.....

Talk to the Marines again but they don't have short contracts. The Army does offer a one year contract for prior service. So I might go in for one year just to get a security clearance.

my brother in law did.. he was one of the 1st 500 that died in Iraq...

don't do it..

my sister and her son miss him very much

on the other hand she's Almost spent the $500,000 in death benefits but she gets to go to college for free and so does he, and she gets social security for the boy til he turns 19..

oh and she's moved on living with another Joe giving him 2 children but not getting married to him because that would terminate the benefits..

but you know..

oh his mom misses him as well, his 3 sisters and 2 brothers, it's a mess at christmas and thanksgiving time.. but you do what you think will make you happy..

I held a S when I was in the marines and it expired when I discharged. I got on with Aerotek and had to go back through all that shit again with JPAS, NCLC and the OPM to get it back. for PSD with Aerotek I only needed a S.

Irrelevant. I was shot 5 times in two deployments and wouldn't hesitate about going again. Dying is an understood risk assumed by all. I lost my brother on our birthday Apr 7 of this year in Helmand province, same place I was hurt in. But that still doesn't change my outlook on it.

Anything good ill need a s or ts.

Sent from my ADR6350 using EliteFitness

Doubtfully a TS. Unless you're PSD for embassy or something like that. I was gonna do MSG duty as a B billet my last two years in and had to get a TS. I never did it but just the application process was insane.

I know of a company in the states that as long as you can obtain a clearance they will do the paper work and once you get your clearance they will hire you, everything from a C up depending on the job. Not sure what you expect pay wise though. Last time I looked they had several jobs open at several different facilities in the states

My buddy works for triple canopy, they paid for his clearance, its all online now. We were both 11b's, 105 day deployments, 500$/day is the rate theyre paying him. Hes doing psd, says is easy. Their training facility is in lousianna. Seems like a pretty good gig though. I currently work for the DoD, ill never quit for a contractor job.

I feel the same way! You take that risk when you join, any branch for that matter. The only reason her and her kids are safe is because people give there lives to protect are country.

Well put my friend, and sorry for being a little off subject but it really bothers me that so many people now a days take our Freedom for granted and could give 2 craps less about the men and women who have sacrificed so much for us (this country) to have and maintain our Freedom!

Well thanks for all the advice guys I appreciate it, thanks. Most people have no idea what kind of sacrifices it takes to ensure our way of life continues and you know what I'm glad they don't that let's me know we are doing a good job! I love it when people ask about the armed forces and say thank you and call you a hero. I always think about the RI who told me there are no live heroes! But we don't say that to civilians bc they would never understand. Death is always part of the equation but you don't realize it untill the shit gets real and you think to yourself what the fuck am I doing here! We all have to die from something As for you guys trying to get into contract work.... PM me and I will do what ever I can to help. As for the SF thing... I'm thinking I'm going to go for it. I would rather be dead and know than spend the rest of my life wandering "what if " I had the balls to go after something that gives you
satisfaction that can't be found doing anything else.

Just a couple questions, regarding this statement, "Most people have no idea what kind of sacrifices it takes to ensure our way of life..."

what is "our way of life," just so we have a baseline for discussion.

Secondly, assuming "our way of life" means the continuation of the political system we've had since the 18th century, when has it been threatened by an external military threat? The best I've got is the War of 1812 which was started by the United States as a land grab for Canada but The British Empire had no intention of re-subjugating.

DUUUDE! I'm right there with you! I have the itch really bad, but i keep pinching myself and reminding myself of how many nights i fell asleep punching myself in the dick for signing my life away.... but that was working for the Govt. Then again, even though it sucks monkey nuts, there's also nothing like it in the world, especially if you're getting paid 500 a day like that triple canopy fellow^^^. Damned if ya do, and damned if ya don't. God speed, whatever your choice is. I just feel like the grass is always greener on the other side, especially in this case.

I quoted the OP...

If you want to participate intelligently I would suggest you read the post you respond too. Otherwise, go back to jerking off to Full Metal jacket and spare us.

First learn the difference between to, too and two. I respond to shit I know about unlike you whom I've noticed don't know too much. Also I jerk off to heartbreak ridge not full metal jacket, that's just what I use to get hot.

You don't end a sentence with a preposition...hence too. That's what the gubment schools taught me...

Name a war or military action that saved "our way of life." Also, please define this socialist collective "way of life."

People like to anthropomorphize government into something that exists outside of the abstract and that's why I always have to point out that government isn't father or mother.

My friend, im pretty sure the way he said "our way of life" has nothing to do with politics! Im pretty sure it is directly related to: you pick your job, you choose where you want to live, you have the freedom to come and go as you please, things of that nature. Obviously you haven't experienced the things that (from what I can see) most all the others in this conversation have! We have luxuries in this country that we take for granted every day that people in other countries would love to have! Also instead of jumping into something and acting like a douche, if you truly want to know something ask politely! And another thing while im going, You should count your stars for the past present and future troops of this country my friend! Without them, the team work, and courageousness they have shown and will continue to show, by now this probably wouldn't even be a country! If it weren't for our troops overseas right now, this war would still be going on it would just be in our front yard instead of in theirs!

Name a single military conflict that preserved the rights you listed. Every right you listed has been infringed on by the federal government since 9/11, not some foreign power. If you want to play the "patriot" card then you need to go all the way back The American Revolution.

I just pulled my report of seperation and record of service;Between active duty and reserve time I have 8 years 3 months and 28 days of thugery as a 13B. I lost six months of my life sitting in the Saudi desert with only the French Foreign Legion armored brigade to associate with defending Israeli and House of Sayed interests as a mercenary paid for by US taxpayers.

I know, right? LOL! Who knew all the SF badasses would congregate here at EF?

My dad wasn't SF, but he lived war for 4 years, every day in the South Pacific. When the time came to get out after the Japs surrendered, he couldn't go fast enough or get far enough away.

War was a lot messier then I guess. We (mom and the kids) didn't know he had nightmares all the time. The stories we heard were about him and his buddies getting into trouble for fighting with some drunken sailors or some other foolishness. He never talked about the bodies he'd seen piled up (both American and Japs), or the buddies that got killed or the Japs he'd shot, or any other "totally cool adrenaline rushing" sort of stuff. He would talk about getting shot at and the food running out and not getting rations for several weeks, sleeping under a parka in a hole filled with muddy water and worse. He was clear that it was very shitty.

He never showed the effect that the horrors of war had on him though. Back then they didn't talk to shrinks when they came home. Hell they didn't talk to anyone about what they had done. They got jobs, got married, had kids, and lived a normal life. I guess they got pretty adrenaline'd out after 4 years non stop. Or maybe they were just weak and helpless?

My dad didn't want any of his kids to go into any branch of the service. That was how bad war was for him. He said when they got back and were lined up and were asked who wanted to re-up...not one of them stepped forward. Maybe they should have waited a few weeks or months to ask them? lol.

Let me also say that I respect those who serve and have served. I am glad and thankful they do/did what they do/did. Thank you guys for your service.

Listen man, i dont know what your experience was in the military (mos dependent) i got out 2 years ago and i HEAVLY considered going back in multiple time. I forgot all the terrible things. Now when i look back on it im sooo glad i didnt. I dont know what it is but me and a lot of the men i served with seemed to go through a 1 year window of wanting to go
Back in. I think its just missing that familiar enronment, and not used to dealing with "stupid" civilians. Dont do it man. I like being able to take a shit without asking permission!

I think its just missing that familiar enronment, and not used to dealing with "stupid" civilians.

Civvies aren't that bad, the army's just as bad with regards to in-barrack organisation as most blokes are too afraid to make a decision without consulting their one-up / hierarchy.

Well i do not have the time nor am i willing to put up and listen to some hippy liberal English major dush bag who reads the news paper and watches Glenn Beck and thinks he knows something about U.S. foreign policy! Rocket was spot on with what i met by "our way of life"...... Additionally what i men by that is so that American people don't have to live in fear of someone flying planes into buildings or blowing them up with car bombs on U.S. soil. And like i said; that is why civilians do not understand. I will tell you what if you don't like it here than get the fuck out!!! There is a great place in France waiting for you, and I am even willing to pay your way and I mean that. The only condition is that you have to hand over all ID so that you can not come back here and infect this world with your bullshit. I realize that you are entitled to your opinion regardless if i like it or not, but you must be absolutely insane to jump into a conversation (which you added no relevance to the over all topic) and stir a shit pot. I hope that I have made my point or did I make a mistake in grammar?

As for woot. Well you're fighting a losing battle trying to get him to not talk shit. This is CC and he loves to stir the pot. Don't take it personally. When I first joined EF I almost got banned cause he pissed me off so bad I said some shit we're not allowed to on here.

I knew my husband 3 years before he ever told me any of his horror stories...I have a couple of vietnam vet friends that have told me fractions of stories (one was a helicopter pilot..those are some fuckin stories) and you'll notice I don't ever tell my stories here...my civie stories sure...not my mil stories.

The IRR tried sucking the husband back in twice..first time he dodged it by joining the guard for a year. Second time, I saw that fedex truck coming up the driveway and just knew what it was. As soon as I saw the MO address my heart sank...I opened it read the orders and kneeled in the driveway and sobbed because I knew if he went again he'd be lost...if not dead then re-warped in mind and body into something unfamiliar and the person I knew would be dead.

I get nostalgia like any other former service member but always remember its rose colored glasses. Hell I get a little jealous when I see someone in uniform because all I have left are my dog tags and a lousy digi-backpack thats covered in soot.

We both agree we miss the camaraderie and silly shit service members get themselves into when they're kickin back...but thats it.

AAA-fucking-MEN brother! FTR Glenn Beck would not have seconded that guy's opinion. While he may be a little on the crazy side, the difference between GB's views and This idiot's^^^ are like black and white.

American male homosapien. Who the fuck do you think you are jumping into my tread being a smart ass? No room for punks here dude just asking for advice from people who matter.

I don't really care what any of you believe, so i'm not going to comment on that again, but the man is proud of his country and what he sacrificed for it apparently. I don't know what he did, but it doesnt really matter, because i didn't do a lot to make a difference over there myself but i know how much i still sacrificed. Woot, i know you like to kid around, but "brainwashed faggot" to a guy who's standing up for the country WE ALL live in??? At least i assume. I can't say much to semper because i think if you've served you have a right to comment based on that you've experienced it. So ya, just had to say something about that. Lol, sorry those were just the last three posts i read. I'm bored. :/

Aaah, Canadian. There's one fault i'll put on Americans (me). We tend to forget there are other countries out there besides ours, lol as i so clearly demonstrated in my last post.

Indeed, when I enlisted at seventeen I needed my parents permission. My mother forbid it and my father simply said, "let him go." He enlisted in the Navy right after Pearl Harbor. From what I gather he assumed that he was going to get drafted and he didn't want to end up in the infantry. He didn't end up in the infantry, the Navy made him a corpsman and promptly attached him to the marines...My mother got the Purple Heart plates late in his life after I found his military service records and told her he was awarded two Purple Hearts, one for the Tarawa campaign and the other for Iwo Jima. The only stories he ever told me were about being strafed by a zero standing between the Captain and XO; The Captain was killed and the XO critically wounded while he was unscathed. The second story, He went in with a battalion of marines and only a handful came back alive and unscathed....they went on a bond drive and he went onto the next campaign. Like most things, I confused the teachings of my grandfather with the message my father was trying to convey. My father didn't set foot on soil controlled by the United States for over four years. He was either floating on a ship or attacking Japanese controlled territory....his ETS date was in 1948 from Great Lakes...He served without seeing his family once from late 1941 to 1948...Please whine about your 12 month rotation being extended to 15 months...

I've never claimed to be a historian; I have an undergrad degree in history with a specialization in European Military History but that and 5 bucks will get you a cup of coffee. Most importantly, I've questioned my beliefs and admitted that I'm wrong when the evidence is clear.

I'll paraphrase Mark Twain,"Don't let your schooling interfere with your education."

I went through Airborne and Air Assault school as an ROTC cadet without pay...the black hats took particular glee in making me suffer as a future officer even though I was an E-5 veteran.

Last I heard, we all have to fear another 911 attack because US foreign policy hasn't changed since WWII. Actually, you imperialists need to get the fuck out of this country because it was founded on the smallest federal government possible and no foreign entanglements; That's Washington and Jefferson...Join the IDF or Saudi army if you love those countries and renounce your US citizenship.

Finally, the most poignant thing I ever saw in life was occupying a position held by conscripts; The decapitated corpses were flying white flags...DPICM has a tendency to decapitate...

I'll invoke Woods law #3

"No matter how obvious you make a satire, someone will think you are being serious."

My Glenn Beck avatar is satire, I'm spelling it out for you jack because everybody else "gets it."

I know what I was taught in public school and what my nieces and nephews are taught because I talk to them and interact with teachers that are teaching in public school. I can also read the Ohio curriculum that is publicly available.

I'm not trying to start anything but so many ppl in this country and in the military are completely brain washed. We are fighting the these great wars on in the name of democracy., give me a break. We have no freedom anymore in this country. Military men should want to fight in our own boarders because our own government has been overtaken for quite some time now. You guys should also be aware of false flag attacks. I'll leave it at this.., Kissinger: "military men are dumb stupid animal to be used as pawns in foreign policy".

I do respect the men that serve our country tho. It really does hurt me tho because our military is being used for bullshit wars..

Before Kissinger, Marine Corps General Smedley Butler sniffed it out...
Re-enactment of a speech he gave...

Raytheon is paid by the taxpayers to develop weapon systems with Israel, they (Israel) then sell them to China which in turn sells them to Iran. This has been established in publicly available DoS documents and Israel was excluded from being involved in the JSF for selling US military secrets. Now, if Iran was a threat to Israel then why would Isreal indirectly sell them weapons technology?

A president warned us about the military industrial complex in his farewell address.

I do understand and respect your opinion but you need to go and see for yourself what it is like to have no rights! Some American civilians feel that the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is unnecessary and they are allowed to have that opinion. But everyone is loosing sight on the big picture, you have to ask yourself is the world a better place without Saddam Husain? Yes it is the man exterminated thousands of people, bc they had different beliefs. When you talk to those people over there they were terrified of Saddam even after he had been found guilty in a court of law that the US helped set up for stabilization of the country. As for Afghanistan I think the results speak for themselves, there have been no attacks on US soil since the invasion. I would rather have soldiers being attacked than American civilians, at least the military has the means to defend themselves. War is terrible, but it is necessary to defend the civilian populace. One thing that drives me absolutely insane is that people bitch about how bad things are but they don't vote!! Well my vote doesn't matter they say; well how do know if you don't do it? That is our right and duty as citizens to make our voice heard.

I'm "allowed to have an opinion." How magnanimous of you to allow me to disagree with you. Who pays for the military? It doesn't pay for itself...the military is the ultimate welfare queen.During his reign Saddam killed how many people? He was a US ally for most of his reign and roughly 100,000 Iraqi's died during the US occupation, that's a pretty solid death toll. In regard to your no attacks on US soil, Fort Hood shooting was a terrorist attack by someone with a security clearance issued by your government, there have been more attempted terrorist attacks by US citizens since 9/11 than the entire history of the country; The fact they are incompetent actors is irrelevant.

War is NOT NECESSARY it is a choice. The Taliban agreed to hand over Osama and his henchmen in 1998.

"Taliban 'ready to discuss' Bin Laden handover if bombing halts
The Taliban would be ready to discuss handing over Osama bin Laden to a neutral country if the US halted the bombing of Afghanistan, a senior Taliban official said today.

Afghanistan's deputy prime minister, Haji Abdul Kabir, told reporters that the Taliban would require evidence that Bin Laden was behind the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US.

"If the Taliban is given evidence that Osama bin Laden is involved" and the bombing campaign stopped, "we would be ready to hand him over to a third country", Mr Kabir added.

Well it's a good thing a spineless pussy like you isn't running our country and making tough decisions bc a lot of innocent people would get hurt. You say war is not necessary you know nothing. You can quote youtube all you want and all these other supposed experts you want ,but i know what i saw and experienced you are going off someone's opinion. War is terrible and should only be used as a last resort but it is very necessary. I have tried to be nice and at least try to have some sort of dialog with you but your just as bad as the religious extremist who hate us. You are no veteran your a spineless COWARD who hides behind the people that gives you the rights to have conversations like this, and then bad mouths them for it. I have more respect for the people who hate us bc at least they stand for something. I'm have no time for cowards

All I know is that Ron Paul would be the best president.... He's the most logical. But it seems like that's not going to happen. The next great big war will start soon. The left and right love war. Plain and simple. It's all about money.. When push comes to shove just don't point your guns at the American people. I hope you guys don't follow that order.

War is "very necesary" in you opinion? Look at the economic history of the United States from post Civil War to 1890..that's when the United States surpassed the British Empire in GDP to become the powerhouse of prosperity. A time of price deflation and prosperity with a tiny military where anyone could purchase any drug from the pharmacy and own any weapon they desired. Once again, the military and government don't give me anything, they rob me and treat me like a farmer treats their livestock. My rights are natural, they derive from the fact I'm a sentient human being capable of making decisions based on my own desires.

Your last statement is very informing. You respect "them" because they "stand for something." What did Bin Laden stand for? He didn't "hate America" because we have Budweiser and "freedom." Bin Laden spelled it out, he hated America because we occupied Muslim holy land and armed Israel against muslims. What does the Taliban hate? Foreign invaders..doesn't matter if you're Alexander the Great, Ghengis Khan or George Bush on a mission from god. The people of Afghanistan have always resisted foreign invasion. We have a spike in domestic terrorism because of US policy against non Al Queda muslims; specifically killing muslims in Pakistan that have no connection with Al Queda.

Your a jackass, do yourself a favor and move to Mexico

The old "love it or leave it" argument. Indeed, George washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and all those other assholes that wanted self-determination, limited government, and non-interventionism should have moved to Mexico....

All those bitches that wanted the right to vote and not be treated like chattel should have moved the fuck to Mexico if they didn't like it...

All those slave assholes should have moved to Mexico if they didn't like being slaves...Kinda hard to move when you're a slave...but that's your argument?

That bitch Rosa Parks should have gotten off the bus and went to the back of a bus to Mexico if she didn't like it....

Ad hominem attack....

I never expect much from marines..they like to brag about non-accomplishments or battles the Army carried.

If you want to consider yourself a "hero" for attacking people that agreed to hand over Bin Laden and his henchmen to the international community for a fair trial then so be it but take off your body armor, trash your commo gear and fight the Taliban like men. Murder those peasants like God intended, with infantry tactics and overwhelming force not artillery, air strikes and advanced communication and control; Fight like men on equal ground.

No, we let others gush at how bad ass we are. The rest, well it's all history. Give me a battle that the Army won and Marines claimed.

Most battles in the Pacific during WWII....

The Japanese were a pathetic opponent at best, antiquated equipment, outnumbered and starving at every battle. I have an arasaka carbine my father brought back as a war trophy; It's a patheic firearm.

The battle of Inchon is another....

non-accomplishments are in your theme song....beating up on Tripoli pirates and Mexico.

Marines are supposed to specialize in amphibious assault but the largest amphibious invasion in the history of humanity was 100% Army while the marines were in the rear with the gear, the June 6th assault on Normandy.

The arasaka is a shitty weapon I give you that. Most of them were broken as a booby trap for Americans to pick up and try to use. Before you start bashing on my Corps you need to research more about them.

Inchon- The majority of United Nations ground forces involved were U.S. Marines, commanded by General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. MacArthur was the driving force behind the operation, overcoming the strong misgivings of more cautious generals to a risky assault over extremely unfavorable terrain.

Operation red beach, blue beach. We led the way. Don't fuck with us. We have proved it time and time again.

Survivors of war don't call themselves hero's. The hero's are the ones who don't come home if you actually were a soldier and not a gutless worm like Semper said you would know that. I'm done now Semper you were right

I'm not interested in fighting with you on the internet. Because anyone can act like a tough guy online. FYI, its a little different in real life.

As a Marine I have never said we one a battle that we didn't. So I'm sorry that's you feel about Marines. But its definitely not the Marine corps style.
