I suffer with cronic shin splints used all different methods and adaptions in shoes most made it worste, for me my shins used to flair up wether on concrete or grass, I've suffered for years and being a high level rugby player luckily I've had some top experts look at me and had some great advice. I've found the best thing for me is if running on hard ground or grass have new fitted trainers/rugby boots every 2 months and then I wear 2 compression socks one on each leg then on top I wear a tube grip bandage. This seems to alleviate the stress to my calfs which are very strong. I've also been told by my physio who's worth his weight in gold to take 600mg ibrophfen 1 hr before training as in stop the muscles on the shin swelling to much during training. This is now what I've done before training for 6 months now and has worked wonders. I also have an ice bath after training just for good measure. I can now walk after training and don't suffer a tenth of what I do if I don't take these measures, I found for me this has worked the best over all other methods and has let me compete again at a decent level. Maybe this might help other people
