Boy did i jinx myself. yesterday i started a thread about favorite condom brands, now today im in a dilemma. I was having sex tonight and the everything went swell, i went to flush the condom and i shook it a little bit to make sure it didnt leak, but didnt really pay too much attention, it appeared as if everything went fine. then i went back into the room and there was a spot about 4 inches in diameter on the bedsheets right where i had gotten off. I dont know how in the hell it could have gotten there though? even if it had broken i would have cummed in her, and not on the bed right? I dont really know what to do. I'm only 18 so having a kids way out of the question. does anyone know how long after sex it is before you can take a home pregnancy test?

by the way...the condom did contain the spermicide (nonoxyl-9) and also, she just got off the period on monday (5 days ago) ANY women know anything about fertility times during the month, etc?

Hey, well, for one thing...most women don't get pregnant 5 days after their period was over. It usually takes longer than that.

Another thing...have the girl take a pregnancy test at least 3 days after her period was over. This is when they are the most accurate.

I think you will be okay...girls can leave puddles that big, too!

5 days after should be safe. it's usually in the middle of the period that women are fertile.

if she thinks it is possible though, you may want to go get the morning after pill...but you have to act fast.

Sperm can live for between 6 to 9 days in the woman's body!....so actually if you were to have unprotected intercourse it THE PERFECT TIME FOR HER TO CONCIEVE as she would be right in the middle of her cycle - about the time MOST women ovulate. Sorry.

The good news is that the puddle was probably left by her. But I said - PROBABLY.

I have had a pregnancy test come back positive as early as 5 days after ovulation (but then again, we were charting my temperatures and I knew EXACTLY when I ovulated because we were trying to concieve).

MOST pregnancy tests will show a positive the first day she missed her period. But in some cases there still may not be enough pregnance hormone in her urine. If still unsure after another week - retest.

ya, like Bmom said it was probably her left overs after she had finished, otherwise, 4 inches in diameter....dude u must have balls the size of watermelons or something

if a condom tears, maybe she'd feel it (however never having one inside of me i have no authority on the subject ) think i read it somewhere

but morning after works up to 72 hrs i think. though get her onn a pill, then test her urine etc.

trust me if it tears she wouldn't feel it... the guy would though if it's a big enough tear.

that said, it was likely her on the bed, and the possibility of her being pregnant is very minimal, but if you are worried go get a morning after pill ASAP and then you'll be totally safe.

and i could be wrong, but my understanding is sperm can only live a max of 5 days in the body... not that anyone should be playing around with time.

Small you're probably right about the number of days (I am not 100% sure, but I think the number recently has been known to be as high as 9)...doesn't really matter though.

A woman's cycle BEGINS on the first day she begins to bleed, NOT AFTER THE FLOW ENDS. So if she bled for about 6 days (we are talking average) and if they had intercourse on the 5th day after she stopped bleeding she would be in the ELEVENTH day of her cycle. If she were to ovulate on the FOURTEENTH day (again, we are talking averages) that would mean that the sperm would be sitting around just ITCHING to fertilize that egg! So it is actually THE MOST OPTIMAL TIME FOR CONCEPTION.

Somehow her last period lasted for 8 days. So i guess u could sya we had sex on the 13th day of her cycle. I guess this pretty much means im in a very risky situation right now. She went out of town at 7 this morning and won't be back for 4 days so it looks like the 72 hour pill is out of the question also. I'll just have to wait it out and see if her period comes at the end of this month. I'm hoping the spot was from her, because she said she did have an orgasm right aroudn that spot of the bed. hopefully it was there from her. I don't understand how it could have leaked out of her if it was me????? especially that much.

Chill out. You used a condom and it didnt break, the puddle on the bed is from either her juices or sweat from the heat. If it makes you feel better to take a pregnancy test, then do it.

dont spend your time nervous and freaking out, every woman is different so who know when she is ovulating. But whats done is done, and there is really nothing u can do about it now, but wait and take a test...no need to get all worked up till u know for a fact that she is. Has she thought about some other type of birth control?

menstruation and ovulation don't necessarily correspond to each other. I found that out the hard way b/c I am now 9 months pregnant w/ our second child. The day of conception was 5 day after a period!

According to my Human Sexuality book, sperm remains viable upto 72 hours.

Ejaculation during rear entry intercourse, will have higher percentage of conception than missionary.

Ovulation occurs exactly 14 days BEFORE the next period. Those 14 days are called the LUTEAL PHASE and are constant. Differences in cycle length are due to variations in the first 10-20 days, the FOLLICULAR PHASE, so named because that's when the follicle is growing. Typically, egg and sperm both survive 48-72 hours. Taking all this into account, with a 28 day cycle, the most fertile time is 12-16 days from the FIRST DAY of the last period.

Of course so many things affect the follicular phase... and stress and, yes, even rape/sex can cause early ovulation (just recently discovered that rapes result in disproportionately more pregnancies than the same number of regular coital incidences.) So in other words, despite the best laid (no pun) plans....

Emergency contraception, which should be available over-the-counter in this F*cking country is not...
it should be used within 72 hours and is most effective (>95%) if taken within 24 hours. Basically 4 of almost any birth control pill (NOT triphasics-may need 6 depending on which pills you use) followed 12 hours later by 4 more will do the trick. So keep 'em handy; I keep a pack in the glove compartment

The wet spot could have been anything, even urine. Some women may have bladder spasms during orgasm and if there's enough urine in the bladder...
Don't sweat it for now. If she misses her period by 1 or 2 days, the EPT or almost any other store test will pick up pregnancy as early as the first day of the missed period.

yup thats true... i took human sexuality this past semester and its true!! cool huh?? anyway... i have question for u babydoc. ok here it is... lets say i get my period at the end of the month...usually anywhere b/w day 28 and the 3rd of the following month. now... if i had unprotected sex around the middle of the month (around the 12th) then got my period a few days later for only ONE day..what could this be? i got it for one day then the next day it was very very light..just spotting as if it were the end of my period and i havent gotten it since. its just weird that i got it so early like that and only for one day. could this be due to stress. ive def. had a lot of stress lately... so i was thinking it might be that but im just a lil concerned... any advice doc??

sorry i didnt give an update sooner. it's not looking too good so far. she's been having cramps for the last 5 days really bad, can't even sleep on her stomach. i dont know what that means, hopefully just a coincidence. we're waiting for her to get her period but that's not for another 10 days at least. and the bad thing is she is really sporadic about getting her period. she said she can get it anywhere from the 20th-30th. so im not relaly gonna know when she can take a pregnancy test. the worst part about it is i move 2,000 miles away tomorrow, so im not gonna be able to be with her when she does take the test.

None of those "signs" mean anything. TRUST ME. Take it from a woman who wanted DESPERATELY to be pregnant....it took me 13 months the first time around (not complaining - I am EXTREMELY lucky and I know it). I would ask every friend and acquaintance, "How do you know when you are pregnant (barring the obvious, I am talking about the period of time BEFORE you can actually KNOW)?" and hang on their every word as they said, "You just know." To those women I say - FUCK YOU! You NEVER KNOW until you do a blood or urine test - PERIOD. There is no mysticism here. Either you ARE or you AREN'T.

For the record, every month that I was CERTAIN I could not possibly be pregnant, was dying to get my period so we could just start again (My periods were also very eratic. I could go as much as 60 days then the next 15 or 20. So you can just imagine my frustration.)

I know it is easy for me to say, "Just wait it out and you will be ok." There is nothing you can do to make that test come back positive or negative sooner than the tests were designed to work. The soonest I had a test come back positive (OTC urine test) was 8 days after ovulation, but then again, we knew EXACTLY when I ovulated as I was charting my basal body temps.

It's been a while since you started this thread. I suggest spending the $7 at Walgreens for the pregnancy test. There are some made that you can pee on right away without waiting for the next morning. However, the highest level of HCG show up during that time.

I don't ever remember getting cramps right before my pregnancy. Surely the symptoms she's been having maybe psychosematic of her perception of what pregnancy symptoms may be.

She got her period today!!!!! and its normal, not light...soo i think we're in the clear right? Thank you every1 for the replies, it was comforting to hear i didnt have anything to worry about, but you know thats almost impossible in that type of situation.
