ok, figured out why I guess it is, Most whey powders contain lactose in them and its always debated if lactose causes water retention or thick skin (people usually avoid it just to be safe). Alot of whey powder will cause many people to bloat too. I can certainly attest to that, I look a bit more puffy after a day of consuming 6 or so shakes or alot of egg whites as opposed to normal food, tho oddly milk doesn't seem to do it to me.
