Def. surprised myself today. I used to deadlift heavy a lot and hit 440 bout a month or so back. Took some time off and deadlifted here and there, started up a new program. Today went kinda like this

335 for 6, 385 for 5, 405 for 3, 445 for 1PR! then 405 for 2

All raw no straps, belt or chalk. It surprised me cause I havent deadlifted for awhile and I dont do any accessory lifts for the deadlift. Stats are 6'2 around 212 to 218 it varies.

NICE! I had a similar experience. I stopped deadlifts for about a year, mainly because my glutes and hamstrings were already big enough and I wanted to stay symmetrical. Legs each week gave me good size but legs and deads in the same week made my ass grow way too big, lol. My back routine was the same as before, barbell rows, dumbbell rows, pull-ups, etc. just minus the deads. I also kept my leg strength up by heavy leg workouts like usual.

Before I stopped deads I would do 455 for 2. A year later a friend in the gym was doing 315 on deads and I said "lightweight baby!" He gets all mad (in a playful manner, we're good friends) and he says, "I don't see you doing this." So I just said back, "pu 405 on there to let me warm up." So we put 405 on the bar and I dead it without any trouble. It was really easy, I was surprised. Now, feeling cocky, I say, "go put another plate on there while I get some water." Haha, I said it like he was my bitch but I do have his interest now. He wants to see me lift/fail 495 so he obliges and puts on the weight while I get a sip of water.

I come back and casually walk up to the bar, get my grip correct, say, "lets do this!" and I lift it with out much trouble. I couldn't believe I lifted 495, a personal best when I hadn't trained it for so long. All I can attribute it to is the heavy squats and heavy barbell rows (275+ for sets) to keep my back strong.

Good work. I would not discount the lift if you had used chalk. Next time you try throw on 10lbs more and use chalk.

Beachbum, I am the same with deadlifts in that I never really seem to loose the strength. All other lifts yes, but not deads.

A lot of powerlifters don't even train the deadlift a few weeks before the meet, then go on to lift PR's at the meet.

Nice work. I hope to be lifting 5 plates soon, if not, by the end of this year.

467.5 BABY!!!!

Getting close to that 500 joint. Cant wait. Its been my goal for awhile. The best part of all of this is my diet isnt really in check yet when it is I cant for this to go up even higher.
