Rippetoe's starting strenght, I did it earlier this year for a few months before an injury, if you eat enough and arent too bothered about the abs for a few months then your strenght will sky rocket.

It really comes down to adapting what you do and tweaking it depending on the way your body responds, you need to learn about your body as much as you can throughout your lifting life and if you have already been training for "a very long time" that says to me training for years and you should already know things like how long it takes for your body to recover etc...
