POPCORN! and other JUNK! WTF!

Anyone else addicted to fing popcorn??? I don't know when this started, maybe a few month ago with the Indians in te playoffs, but now, everytime there is a 8pm game on, I chowing on popcorn, almonds, peanuts.....I just bought a air popper, spray the hell out of it with Spray butter, cinnamon, hazelnut splenda, and I'm talking a huge ass bowl.....and those damn low carb EAS bars - frozen - ohhh man...everynight!

I was until 2 months ago, i cant beleive the lean gains ive made since i stopped.Thats what has helped me keep it away,i now know how bad it was for me.

i love kettle corn bro, and used to think "its only 40 cals popped"....but then read popcorn is like those rice cakes, HUGE insulin Spike. I try to stay away, but i usually cave alteast 2x a month. Which is not bad at all, just dont buy them jkurz, thats what i had to resort to.
 
NAH....when you mix em with a good fat source, the GI is nixed, plus a couple r-ala....eat em with some almonds and some hot coca...plus mine is usally with the 3-4 hour pw window!
 
I don't mean to trash anyone's post, all good suggestions. Here is my theory. I'm on HRT #1. #2, I'm a recovering drug addicted (got addicted to painkillers from my friggn doc) went to rehab July 30th at 145lbs and 6'2 when I graduated from college I was 240 and a DE, solid prob. 12%.

I've recovered, thank the GOd and I train harder mnow than I ever have in my life. No more of this 3 hour sagas, it's short (60mins max), and intense. No cardio until my weight gets back up, so I use this nightly feeding as a treat #1, as post workout nutitrion #2, and as a reward for staying sober today. It's Halloween and I'm sitting at 185 and prob. 12-13%. I still see my obliques amnd am in now way fat. When I get to 200ish, I'll def. rethink my goals, but just putting 225 back on the bench from 135 and pumping out 5 solid rest pause reps, it just feels good. So, it's a clean cheat I guess every day of the week, I never stray nor cheat in any other way, so it's prob. balanced with a lot of splurgers. My diet is oats, chk, turkey,tuna,ww bread, veggies, splenda, coffee, skim milk and ff cc. THen the popcorn, almonds, low carbbars, peanuts, and hommeade sf hot cocca.....tis all and I feel pretty good.

Oh by the way, sorry, I do get nightly cc low carb bars and skim/soy milk,,,,,so I def hit my protein!

Dude it's all good ,whatever floats your boat.I'm a recov/cocain addict,and guess mabe i now have found my new addiction-before the drugs i was a bodybuilder,and went down hill, now i'm back, and probably more anal about it then i need to be.I'm not going for MR- O after all.... and it wasnt just the popcorn, i ate alot of chineese food ect... so my whole diet changed for the good now!!!!!!!

Sorry if this is kind of unrelated. I am a little new to this diet stuff. When you say insulin spike, i understand that as a high concentration of sugar linked to a high glycemic index food, right? Something like taking pure sugar. This causes an insulin spike, yes?

My questions.

Why is this bad?

And also i do cardio activities in the morning. Is it ok to consume something which contains lots of simple sugars, and then head out?

This I'll leave for one of the vets to answer. IMO though,i would rathet take in my oatmeal and tnings like that because the simple sugar may give you a blast for a 1/2 hr and then i feel lower than i did to start with! carbs proteins keep me going longer.I always have 1 cup of coffee in the morn.

when your body's insulin spikes, your body needs to maintain homeostasis, meaning it is trying to bring your sugar levels back to normal, instead of burning fat. (this is the reason diabetics have a hard time with their weight)

Its not that its BAD, but mixing BAD foods/BAD Fats with something that will spike insulin causes your body to 'store' the food, since it is alot busier trying to maintain even insulin levels.

dicoran: Are you do the AM cardio for Fat Loss? If so i would recommend dropping Any type of carbs during the AM run. Simple reason is; Overnight your body hopefully has digested the food you ate for the day, so when you wake up your stomach will be empty, and your glycogen storage should be lower then it is mid day. So when you start running, your body needs to tap into another energy source, which would be Fat. Fat is full of energy, that your body taps into when it has no other source of energy. (But be carefull too much cardio empty stomach will trigger your body to switch energy sources again, and next is your muscles)

This is all in theory, and personal expierience. I have lost weight quicker doing AM cardio then PM cardio.

But if you MUST have something in your stomach to keep you from puking, go with a protein shake/ or even better, some EGGS.


Simple sugars will spile insulin, give you a splurge of energy, and like chris69 said, you will crash from the insulin spike.

But oatmeal, will gradually raise insuline, not too much either, and will supply constant amount of energy since oatmeal will take longer to digest.

If you dont have energy for the AM cardio, drink some coffee, ECA stack, etc.

Goodluck. Cutting is not my favorite thing to do, but i love it after im done. And remember ABS are made in the kitchen.
