Im drawing up from 1 ml ampules. When I draw up I usually get about .8 or .9 mLs, never exactly 1 mL. Is this normal?

It does suck but no it's not abnormal. I usually have no issues with mine bc I could tell you if I got too many on the side of .8 I'd get fed up and switch, you are talking 50mgs a piece and that would just piss me off.
You lose a little bit when drawing into the syringe, and it can be hard to get 100% out of the ampule. Perfectly normal
