Pew Forum Religious Knowledge Survey: Atheists and Agnostics Score Highest

I went to parochial school for many years (Catholic then Lutheran) and had to memorize the names of the bible. I took even more classes when I was going to get married in the Catholic church. (Kinda glad that whole mess didn’t pan out). What was my point…Oh yea, you would think with all the classes they make you take they would know the little things about their religion, core teachings for example.

oh how the words come back to haunt.

I'm not haunted by my words. I know what I typed. I used to be that person.

If you don't have it, then you don't have it. If you think I'm judging them by typing the truth in that post, I can live with that.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Most of my post was copy/pasted from 1 Cor but that does not seem Christian? lol

meh, not everyone has to like me.

Either you have the Spirit of God living inside you or you don't. Thats not judgemental, that's just a statement.

As a Brian that was raised in the same evangelical faith as cindylou, there is a certain "spin" that is put on all of the scripture to make it positive and relevant to believers in modern times.

For example, Alan Grayson recently ran a political ad that showed his opponent giving a speech at a religious retreat where he talked about the role of men and women in marriage.

Here it is...

This is Dan Websters comments in context...

I've never been a fan of submissive wiminz....the sex is bad. :)

That being said, slavery is the one morality issue Christianity has never been able to "spin." They can reject the Old Testament as having been "redeemed" by the teachings of Jesus but he never rejected slavery, the best you get is how severely you are allowed to beat a slave.

I saw that yesterday. World News Tonight did a piece on it and then polled some people on the streets.. the Christians polled didnt know the first four books of the New Testament. They were asking people coming out of a chuch! Most Catholics dont read the bible, and most Protestant Churches dont preach or teach the bible anymore. Most pastors are like Joel Osteen - pretty in their suits teaching self help from the pulpits. I watched Joel Osteen one Sunday morning and he didn't refer to his bible once. He quoted Abraham Lincoln but never once used a chapter verse from the bible.

I knew all the books of the bible, in order and where to find them, before the second grade. Most Christian Jr. High and high school students dont know the books in the bible and how to find a chapter and a verse

I scored a 14/15. I had no idea and totally had to guess the last one.

Plus I believe the church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints is not the same as Mormon so I think the test wasnt 100% correct either :lmao:
